Q: I have a M53-D Zoeller pump that is about 10yrs old.I was told by my home builder that it was rated to pump vertical up to 10ft.is this true?I have miss placed my owners manual and now the switch is bad so that the pump runs constant till it over heats,is that do to pumping vertical for 10yrs out of my basement for a washer?By the way it has been a great pump and will never own anything but a Zoeller for the rest of my time.Thank you.

A: The Zoeller M53 is and has been a great pump for many years! It is designed to handle a maximum of 15 feet of vertical lift. I have heard of this pumps lasting for 10, 15, 20 and even up to 30 years. Chances are that the switch has failed and needs to be replaced, which is a common occurrence. We do offer the Replacement Mechanical Switch for M53 and the Zoeller Complete Cover Assembly & Switch Kit For M53 Sump Pump. Please note however that the switch requires installation by you or a certified plumber/contractor and ALL SALES ARE FINAL - NO RETURNS ALLOWED ON THIS PRODUCT.

Saved From A Flooded Basement
I checked locally for a replacement switch. Most didn't carry the style or the closest supplier was almost $100. I matched the switch to the specific pump so it fit properly.

I'm Sure The Product Is Fine...
but I ordered the Zoeller switch from SPD because they said they had it in stock when other sources said they were on backorder at Zoeller- and then my order confirmation came back saying I'd have it in about 10 days to 2 weeks. I couldn't do without a sump pump for that long so I went to a local source. and came up with a fix. I'm debating whether to return it, or try to keep track of it for a few years until I need another one.

Water In The Switch Through The Float Lever
I just want you to beware I had Zoeller pumps for years. My pumps run constantly all spring. I installed my two new pumps this spring hoping I wouldn't have a problem. As luck would have it, I received pumps that were built on a Monday or Friday. Both failed after two weeks. The switches filled up with water and shorted out. So I had to order more switches and top covers. I'm glad I had a few extra pumps laying around to repair them..
