My current sump pump is 20+ years old and I'm only replacing it for age - it does what it needs to. We have a continuous flow of water from our dehumidifier so it goes off every 2 days and more during very heavy storms. The pit is only 11 inches in diameter and the current submersible pump is 1/4 HP 10 amps. I notice a lot of silt and junk in the pump and this one has never gotten clogged. What would this be a good replacement? Thanks!

Answer
Due to the operation of the tether float on this pump, I would recommend a pump with a vertical float design. You may want to look at a Pro Series model ST1033 which is designed to fit in basins as narrow as 10 inches. I would also suggest, as do all manufacturers that you check and clean your basins at least once every 1-3 months to insure that the basin is clean of any debris that might impede the operation of the float or pump and also to insure that the pump is operating correctly.

Would this pump be suitable for a 12' x 12' basement?

Answer
The interior dimensions of a basement aren't a major factor in sizing a sump pump correctly.
Monitoring your current pump during normal operation and during a storm can give you a better idea of what size pump you would need.
