Finding an electric generator can be a challenge at times, especially during a storm or blackout event. It can be really frustrating when you need a generator right now but there aren't any to be found.

Fortunately, we make finding in-stock electric generators simple. You'll know if your generator is in-stock before you even order because we display our inventory in real time. In other words, if our generator is "in-stock," it'll say so.

If it's back-ordered, we'll even estimate when our next shipment is expected from the factory. Plus, our "Estimate Arrival" feature will help you see when your generator is likely to arrive at your doorstep. It's not 100% accurate during a high-demand event, but it's usually close.

If you are signing up for our Home Standby Generator Installation Service, and generators are on backorder, we can still begin the permitting and inspection process while we wait for your generator.

Why is There a Generator Shortage?

Customers are having problems finding in-stock generators industry-wide due to ongoing production issues coupled with high demand.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, it significantly slowed production across the supply chain due to layoffs, shutdowns, etc. At the same time, customer demand for generators skyrocketed as the nation grappled with severe storms, blackouts, and general uneasiness. Manufacturers are adding capacity, but that takes time. Shortages in certain raw materials and component parts aren't helping either.

At Electric Generators Direct, we do everything in our power to keep our inventory of generators stocked, but these industry-wide forces are putting pressure on everyone. We will continue to update our product statuses to keep you informed of our generator stock situation.
