Troy-Bilt 31AH64Q4711 Reviews & Ratings
Hand warmers and price deserve more than one star but.

Bought from box store. Cheap, look great, hand warmers work great. I have owned this for 3 years. First year it started ok idled rough, up and down, tough to restart when warm and back fired. Second year, got it out a few weeks before the snow, started one pull but ran the same, topped it of with gas and put it in the new shed closer to the house. A couple weeks later I opened the shed, all the gas leaked out, would not hold gas, did not use it that year.
Had it fixed this year, new carb and gasket. Engine runs great, starts, idles, restarts, no backfiring. 178 bucks. Performance lacks in my case, Very poor traction even on flat hardtop in a little slop. The joy stick chute control is useless as it sticks when a little snow runs through it requiring to stop and use one hand on the control and the other to push or pull the chute, also limited to positions unlike a crank. Crank is better.
The deflector gets pushed to straight up when snow goes through it. If I tighten the wing nut to prevent this, it is to tight and will not move. Machine has zero traction on hill and sometimes slides downhill even with the wheels turning forward. Skid plate suck, put some long wide after market skids on, 40 bucks and they work great for cutting a path in the yard to the outbuildings and around the house.
Never should have sold my cheaper than cheap Walmart machine that I had for 10 years, went through anything. Only replaced the drive cable on it in 10 years. If you want hand warmers but the 2840. Oh ya, one reverse speed does not work and barely creeps in the other. The slowest forward speed is to fast for any kind of snow and I need to keep releasing the drive every 5 seconds to get through anything.

I live in Maine where we have snow all winter. This Troy-Bilt machine has never let me down. Used over 12 times last season and it performed very reliably. Throws snow over 30 feet and traction is great.

Does what a snow blower should

I live in the foothills of Maine so there is no shortage of snow. I have a large area to snow blow and this machine takes care of it well. The review of the snow blower not running the second time it was tried I find odd. Did you add oil, did you choke it to start it? It may not be a specialty store bought Husky, Honda, or Ariens but it does a great job.

Purchased new from Lowes and have used it three times with no issues. It starts on the first pull. The heated grips work very well. It has electric start but I haven't had to use it. I would buy again.

Bought Lowes, never new me afterwards. Used one time for major snow event ...Dececember 2010. Tried to start today for 2nd time won't start. Replaced spark plug still won't start. Cleaned Carb bowl. Still won't start. Flat moves freely/jet needle intact. Still doesn't start. Added fresh gas w/ measured fuel stabilizer. Bottom line my lawn mower performed better. Stay away from Troy Built products. There extended warranty for additional years. Hold time on pone insane 2.5 hrs.

Troy-Bilt 2840 snow blower

2840 has some nice features with the 4 way joystick control. I just hope it holds up to the test of time. Housing seems to be kind of thin metal but hey it isn't an Ariens. Hope the China engine holds up. Started up on the second pull out of the box. Haven't used it yet so don't know how the performance will be. I do like the extended chute design. Hope it turns out to be a good snow blower.
