Troy Bilt Storm XP 3090

Review Posted 02/04/2022
I brought this blower 10 years ago and have just used it 4 times. I live down the Jersey Shore and we just got 18 inches of snow a couple of years ago I bought the cab cover and that thing has paid off big time well anyway this storm hit and I gotta tell you this thing killed it. I had no problems, and I am recovering from a busted pelvis the self-drive and the ferocity of the thrower was like a powered walker!! I was dry and warm because I have the heated handles and did a 100 x 15 drive way and did my Buddys 50 x 30 DW than did my nieghbors DW 20 x 20 and still had fuel left! I do maintenance myself I changed the oil once a year, start it up for about an hour and move it around. I wash it and use GOOD GAS not that cheap regular and I do add additives. I just have to say its a great rig and I and my neighbors love it

Excellent Snow Thrower

Purchased at Lowe's a few years back. Upgraded from . a smaller Try Blt to this monster. Takes care of my 100' drive nicely I just have trouble finding where to put the snow ! Along with my other TB equipment, I have NO problems starting any of them, in fact, I very rarely even use the electric start because it always starts with 1 or 2 pulls. Prime it, choke it and oull the starter handle. This is THEE strongest, most reliable machine I have ever owned in over many, many WISCONSIN winters !!!!! Can't beat TB equip.

So Far So Good

Bought this beast last week and just got hit with 16” of snow in Long Island, New York. The Troy-Bilt XP Storm 3090 snow blower was everything I expected it to be (and more). Not only did it cut through the 16” like butter (while throwing it 20-30 feet) it also went through the 30-36” pile the plow left at the end of my 70 foot, seven car driveway with very little effort. I was pleasantly surprised when I finished the whole driveway in less than an hour. After fighting and having to muscle with my old snow blower for the last couple of years. I’m pushing 60 and I needed something that was efficient and easy to use. Granted, it was a relatively light snow that made it easier to clear and I was still very impressed. We’ll see how it does with a heavier snowfall. As a result, I highly recommend this snow blower to whoever can afford it. But then again, you get what you pay for.

Buyer beware! Where is the zero star rating

This machine is garbage! I purchased this garbage just over two years ago. The electric chute no longer works, the headlight burnt out, the carburetor is going to need adjusting again for the second time, replaced the shave plate twice and I have replaced the carriage bolts that hold the shoe plate three times.

The have fallen out and have been ground off due to dragging. This machine is garbage. The shave plate design is weak it constantly gets snow and any gravel wedged and caused it to bend, that is with the recommended set height with the shoes. Which is another weak design the carriage bolt sits in the body with no reinforcement the constantly come loose and change the set his gut of the shave plate.

And the machine is a constant fight to keep it from pulling right. And no matter how much you spray the augers for some reason the one on the left always seems to get jammed with packed snow causing the machine to bounce so you must stop every 30 feet and knock the snow from between the augers.

I owned a MTD for almost twenty years and had none of these issues. The machine was stolen from the pond where we use it to clean the rink ( scum). I only ever had to service the carburetor twice the whole life of the machine, and only replaced shoes not a shave plate that continuously gets snow packed between it and the body forcing it to bend.

BEST 2-STAGE SNOWBLOWER EVER OWNED !!!
By John C.

Review Posted 01/26/2016
I've owned my Troy Built 30" 357cc Snowblower for 3 winters now and I keep wishing for more snow every year, and for the snowplow truck to push it's worst across my 30' wide driveway, just to see if there's anything that can stop this BEAST !! I live in the northeast part of PA and we haven't been hit with any big Nor' Easters like before, (to me Big is 12"+) :) but I've had quite a few 10-12" snowfalls that turned into 20" with drifting and what the plow deposited across my driveway. I haven't had NOTHING that could stop this awesome machine. It blasts right thru, the 20" of hard, even frozen or wet slush that the local plow truck leaves me 3x a day effortlessly. But common sense, you can't expect to do it all in 6th speed. I can clear my 30'Wx60'L driveway in 6th speed as long as there's 6" or less and 6th is almost jogging speed, It's FAST.

The electric chute control IS NOT just some gimmick or toy. I have to avoid several shrubs along one side of my drive and a 35' Motorhome on the other. All I have to do is select my speed for the amount of snow, then just squeeze the anger control to engage the blower, then the drive control to get moving, now I let go of the anger control since it stays locked down as long as you keep the drive control down. Now you're snowballing One-Handed :) and have your left hand free to work the chute control joy stick vs. just your left them if you have some intricate directing of the chute like I do. Some spots I can't blow the snow into my shrubs because it all goes I to them and breaks the branches. With this great machine I don't have to stop to crack the chute forward instead of left into the tall bushes and you also don't have to stop to adjust the deflector to change the height of the snow being ejected, like you do if the wind changes direction and decides to blow it back in your face. I know we've all had that happen, but NEVER again with this machine.

Heated hand grips are also excellent, not a gimmick, sometimes they get too hot that I had to turn them off.

Pull start starts on the 1st or 2nd pull, even after refilling after a run-out.

I almost forgot one option that way very important on my want list, the trigger control steering. Works great, it will turn this heavy monster on a dime, no more of that back breaking pushing down on the handles to pick-up the front of the machine, pivot on the wheels to try and turn around to go back the other way. If you squeeze the lever on the side you want to go, it will do long or short sweeping turns, with no effort by you.

I'm kind of picky and I researched snowblower for a year before making my purchase. I had the usual snowblower. It was a 2 Stage, 28" 8hp with the crank handle to only be able to rotate my court's direction. It runs like a champ thru the snow, I didn't sell it because I was so pleased with it I didn't know how much better this new one could be. Well let me tell you IT IS BETTER !!!!
My main reason for looking originally wasn't the need for more power but was for steering & chute control. Now only 45yo and having had a neck and lower back fusion surgery 7 & 8 years ago, I couldn't tolerate the pain during and especially afterwards, from clearing the driveway. The constant bending over to crank the handle to change chute direction, and then turning the machine around at the end of every run was intolerable.

So when I saw the new models that had the Turn-Steer systems and this one that had the even more exclusive electric chute control I began my research and after considering all brands and options and evaluating each one in person (you must do this to make sure you feel comfortable behind it because they are not all built the same) and value for the money, there wasn't anything that even came close to this Troy Built Model.

Good Luck all in your search and don't forget to always be Safe.

Bought mine October 2014. Have used it 3 times and I just love it! The only thing is the auger cable broke and it takes 3 days to get a new one. Need to make the spring on the cable stronger.

EXCELLENT MACHINE
By Brian
Long Island, New York
Review Posted 02/27/2014
I purchased this machine at a local Lowes store in October 2012 and have used this machine along with an older Craftsman 27" which works quite well, but this Troy-Bilt runs rings around it.

Last February a 30" storm on Long Island put this machine to the test and my neighbors all asked me to help them which was a pleasure especially with the hand warmers and made short work of the snow that was blocking driveways and sidewalks.

Sine then, this winter has given 55" up to this date with another large storm approaching. I feel confident that this machine was made for this type of accumulations.
I would highly recommend this machine and feel that this machine will handle any snow that Mother Nature can throw this way.

My only problem was picking up a phone book in the impeller and broke a shear pin which I replaced in 15 minutes after taking out the crumbled book.

Used it 3 times already. I use it at home and I do lot at my office. Throws snow about 40 ft. On a a day I had 4 inches of pure slush it sprayed it out like a fire hose. Pure water coming out the chute. Impressive. I love the power chute joy stick. Easy to direct snow on the fly without skipping a beat. If it holds up its a awesome product!!!
