  5 Questions
Q: Does the TimeMaster 30" mower have the same plastic gears in the rear drive wheels similar to the 22" mulching machines? Thank you.

by Andy from New York on May 06, 2016

A: Andy - the gear pinion (part #110-9417) on the Toro TimeMaster mowers is made of metal.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: What is the difference between Personal Pace and Self Propelled?
by Steve Brasington from South Carolina on April 09, 2015

A: Steve - Toro's "Personal Pace" system is one type of self-propelled drive system on a walk behind mower. The Personal Pace self-propel system automatically adjusts the speed of the mower to your walking speed. With a normal self-propelled system, the speed of the mower is controlled with a bail, a lever or some other mechanical means.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: With the electric start of the Toro Timemaster, does it also have the coil start with it?
by Terry Bailey from Michigan on May 18, 2014

A: Terry - yes, the Toro 20200 has a recoil (rope start) option as well as the electric start.
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: Can you get this mower with swivel wheels in front and also a stripper? Please reply.
by Larry Alsleben from Minnesota on March 09, 2013

A: Larry - the Toro TimeMaster does not have a front swivel wheel option. As for a lawn striper, this is what you would need: lawn striper
by Jose, Product Expert

Q: RE: Toro 20200: Can this unit be operated without the bag in place? How is it delivered, what is owner set-up involve? Thanks.
by Derek Braybrooks from South Carolina on May 29, 2012

A: Derek - yes, the Toro TimeMaster mower can either discharge the clippings or mulch the clippings without the bagger being attached - just like a standard 21" mower. This mower would be delivered in it's shipping carton via a semi truck to your home or business. Assembly is very simple. Fold up and tighten the handle, attach the bagger if you want to bag, add oil and gas, and start mowing.

I am very displeased with the purchase of my new 20200 Toro mower. We purchased it from Mowers Direct less than a month ago. The first time I used it, it was great. The second time I used it, the electric start required several attempts before the motor started.

Once it started it was good, but the start concerned me. My third attempt, this time using the bag, the mower would not re-start at all with the manual pull or the electric start. After sitting for 15 minutes, it would sometimes... more

Daniel,
We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with your Toro mower. For starting issues please bring your Toro mower to the nearest dealer for servicing within three years of your purchase date and Toro will fix your unit for free.

First be sure to have your mower filled up with fresh gasoline. Old gas can also lead to problems starting. If you have last season's gas in your mower, drain your fuel tank and fill with fresh gas. Other possible causes include:

• Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten.
• Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace.
• Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn't work, you might need a new fuel filter.

Please call our customer service number if you have any other questions (888) 384-9939 (toll free).

Worst Mower Ever!
This mower is a very poor performer. I previously owned a Troy Bilt 33 " mower. It was a beast. I used it for 14 years before I had to give it up because of moving to a smaller house without a storage shed. It had casters on the front which made it more maneuverable than this Toro despite its larger size. The Toro chokes on clippings frequently yet clippings build up under the deck necessitating frequent cleanings mid-mow. The gas tank is woefully undersized necessitating frequent... more

Stephen,
Sorry to hear that you're not satisfied with the cut you're getting from the mower. I would suggest following the operating tips on page 15 of the owner's manual.

Manufacturer Response
Brand Rep
Stephen,
We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with your new Toro mower. We recommend adjusting the height of cut to a higher setting. This will lessen the amount of grass you are attempting to mow at one time, reducing these clogging or loss of power instances. Longer grass looks great and allows your lawn to establish deep roots improving the turf's ability to sustain drought conditions.

Of course, the height to which you cut your lawn is entirely up to you. We recommend cutting cool-season grasses when they reach heights of 3- to 3-½-inches and warm-season grasses when heights reach 2- to 2-½-inches. Measure your current grass and adjust your height of cut accordingly. As a general rule, you should not cut more than one-third of the height of your grass at one time as you may experience clumps of clippings that lie on top of the lawn, slower decomposition, and a less attractive, bristly appearing lawn. If you want a completely clean looking lawn without clipping debris you can change to bagging your clippings.

Your mower has a 3 year warranty and if you are still experiencing issues, please contact our customer service line and they will gladly help you work through any existing issues (888) 384-9939 (toll free).

Wish I Had Bought This Sooner
In 1987 I bought my 21" Sears mower, It served me very well, and I kept up on the maintenance of it, but I'm an older guy now and it took me an hour on my front lawn and 62 trips back and forth to get it done... I needed a bigger mower but a riding mower wouldn't fit thru my 36" gates. I searched the internet for a 30" mower and found this one on Mowers Direct. I liked the features and it would fit thru my gates, and with the electric start it was cheaper than any in town. Best... more

I'm Really Liking This Mower
Basically a beefier powered push mower. I would like a bigger fuel tank but no real complaints, well maybe it's pricey for what it is. I wanted the maneuverability of a pusher but the width of a small ride on. It fits the bill for my half acre.
Pros: Easy To Use, Easy To Store, Fast
Cons: Expensive, Heavy

Very Pleased With This Mower
The best feature is the 30" mowing width. I have a very large lawn so the extra width is great. I went with the electric starter version and I'm glad I did. It is such a great feature. I have only used the mower twice so far but I am extremely pleased with my purchase so far!

Disappointed
I'm as so disappointed with this product. I broke down on my after 3 weeks since I bough it. I had to bring it over to Toro dealer for repair. :(

The repair was around $430 which I didn't have to pay since it was covered under manufacturer warranty. I wonder what happens when it breaks down again after the warranty expires.

Sad.

This Mower Is A Beast
I looked at this mower for months, both on the Mowers Direct web site and at Home Depot locally. I read every review and almost decided against it based on some of the negative reviews. But I felt the good outweighed the bad and went ahead and ordered it.

First, the online shopping with Mowers Direct could not be easier and I saved on the sales tax over buying it locally, plus free shipping to my house. The mower arrived right when it was supposed to and the shipping company was great to... more

Garbage
This mower is the biggest piece of garbage out there. I live in Connecticut on a 1 acre lot with a few hilly areas. You MUST mow your lawn every 4 days or the mower will stall every time you attempt to mow even slightly tall grass. I always mow when the grass is dry so that isn't the problem here...it's the underpowered Briggs motor. If you look at other mowers around this size they have around 14hp, this one is nowhere near that. Save your money, try something else.
Pros: Easy To Use
Cons: Expensive, Unreliable, Underpowered

• Cutting Tall Grass: Raise the cutting height on your lawn mower
