Having one of these before (destroyed in fire) I messed up and replaced it with another brand. It had variable speed but to back it up, you had to push forward to disengage the drive. With the Snapper, you just release the handle and the clutch disengages. The Ninja mulching blade is the best mulcher of any other brand I have owned. Adjustable speed, powerful motor, starts on first pull each and every time, handled clutch, Ninja blade and price make this mower the best buy.

The drive belt came off after 10 mins. of mowing. Once I took the mower deck apart and reconnected the belt, the mower would not start. I cannot use the mower at this time due to the weather.
I registered the mower but I'm very displeased with the fact that it has to go for service with only one use.

In a situation like this a service center would need to take a look at the unit to determine what the issue is. If for any reason they are unable to fix the issue or deem it unrepairable a new unit would be issued by us or Snapper but the unit would have to go through the warranty process initially. If you have any other questions, please contact us.

This Snapper Is A Failure!

I had high expectations of this mower. It has failed in every way. I mow a few investment properties and this mower a will start on the "first pull" for the first property and will not start on any subsequent properties. I have done some research and I understand this is a common problem on this Briggs and Stratton motor. It is also quite loud ( not a huge problem for me I use ear plugs). The last area where this mower under performed is quality of the mow. If it is set to mow on a faster speed (it is fast) a lot of grass blades are missed and it uses an excessive amount of gas. Very disappointing.

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Snapper motor starting. Your mower does have a 2 year consumer warranty. Have you contacted a Snapper service dealer to have the mower looked at to determine what the issue may be? If not, that should be your first course of action.
To find a Snapper Service Center, please call (800) 935 2967 or visit Snapper Dealer Locator
In regards to your issue with missed areas during faster speed. It most cases, this occurs because the grass is too long/trying to cut to much off.

My next lawnmower purchase will be a Snap(per)...

My wife & I had just moved from a condominium to a house last fall, and had foregone the purchase of a lawnmower until this Spring (once we had gotten our Tax return + some of the other expenses of a new home behind us)...
Well, needless to say, I did not have any definitive conclusions towards what brand of mower to buy - other than I wanted an American-made one - and upon doing research seemed to find a lot of positive feedback for the "Snapper" brand. I could not be happier with my decision! Between the quality of the mower itself, plus the ease of purchase from 'Mowers Direct', my wife & I are very satisfied!!

Easy To Use, Light Weight, High Quality, I'd Buy It Again
Not the Snapper of old
By John G.

I purchased this mower six months ago. Now that I've had it for a while, I feel I can write a real world review. The 7.25 HP Briggs engine is powerful, runs well and starts easily. That's the good part. Now for the bad stuff. This mower is not built with the same quality of the old Snappers. I purchased this mower to replace a Lawn Boy which I dearly loved. However, Lawn Boy is now a cheaply built mower. I wanted a quality mower, so I purchased the Snapper Ninja mower. This mower, I am sad to say is of no better quality than the other poor quality mowers out there, and yet still carries a premium price. I don't mind paying more for a quality product, however, this purchase was not the case. It has a lot of cheaply made moving parts and if your lawn is a flat square, like a parking lot, I suspect it would mow quite well. However, my lawn has flower beds and trees and is not perfectly flat. The Ninja mower will quickly leave scalped marks all throughout the lawn as its inability to handle the slightest unevenness of your lawn. It is difficult to maneuver because it is very heavy. The self propelled system is very awkward to engage and disengage while moving the mower forwards and backwards. If you are always going forward, this system would be fine. However, when maneuvering around trees and flowerbeds, the system becomes very cumbersome. The handle bars are too long which adds to the difficulty of maneuvering the mower when in tight places. The mulching blade does work quite well. Again, if you are on a perfectly flat surface. If you are mowing acreage, this mower may be fine for you as you would be mowing in a straight line all the time. I'm sorry to see Snapper has gone the way of Lawn Boy and no longer builds a quality product. I would have been ok with the purchase for the half the price of what I paid. You are definitely not getting what you pay for. You are buying the name and not the product.

I liked doing business with Mowers Direct. Every thing went as planned. For the mower itself, I have no major complaints and expect good service from it for years to come. I was a bit disappointed that the differential was empty and I had to go to my local Snapper dealer to get the "00" grease for it. That added about 7% to the initial cost of the thing. Also the 4 torque screws for holding the control console wouldn't go in. I tapped the holes myself and used new screws that I had around. I also think the cup holder on the control console is somebody's idea of a stupid joke - Who would actually use such a thing!

I Just purchased this a few months ago, It was very easy to assemble. It took about 30 min. It seems like a nice solid mower that will last a long time. It has a lot of power and starts up on the first pull. I am a first time mower owner and couldn't be happier with my experience.
Mowers Direct was very helpful. Price and delivery were right on.
Thanks for a great experience!

Mowing and lovin' it

Shipping was prompt, packaging by manufacturer was good, and when you factor in free shipping and no sales tax, the price was competitive with buying locally. When you buy late in the season, as I did, local dealers are very low on stock and Mowers Direct had a complete selection to choose from.
Set-up was relatively easy (about a half hour). Most importantly, the Snapper's performance exceeds my expectations.
I had an old Snapper (about 20 years) and replaced it with THE BLACK MAX (partly because I didn't want to spend the extra money), which is in no way comparable to my old Snapper. I was concerned that a new Snapper would just be more expensive and built cheaper.
I can assure you that the new Snappers are just as rugged and tough as Snappers of the past. Snapper has remained old-school in its design and materials, and I couldn't be happier about that.
The Ninja mulches leaves and grass very fine and allows you to mow close to objects with either side. The side discharge works very well, which is nice if grass is a little wet. I don't bag, so I chose the model without a bag to save the bucks.
The speed of the mower and the speed of the blades are separate, so you can mow at turtle pace like a 70 year old, such as myself, or you can go for your morning jog at rabbit pace while determining blade speed. There is plenty of power and traction for hills. Going from self-propelled mode to free-wheel for mowing around objects is very easy and user-friendly.
My only complaint is with the automatic shut-off that most new mowers are required to have (including Snapper) which will not allow you to open a gate or remove trash in your path where it requires stepping away from the mower a couple steps That then requires restarting the mower. T
he mower does start on first pull. The blame is not on Snapper, but it's on our government regulations constantly working to eliminate the need for the average American to use a little common sense. This inconvenience can be easily remedied (if you feel rebellious).
Best of all, you can brag to your neighbors that you have a high quality piece of equipment that is American-made.
