Product QuestionsAnswered by Jim, the Water Pump Expert
If I was to water a garden with this pump, would the pressure of the hose turning on and off be bad for the pump?

Answer
Yes it would! Cutting off the flow on the discharge or "Deadheading the pump" of any submersible pump like this would cause extreme backpressure, resulting in either a hose/pipe blowing out or the pump exploding. Neither of which would be a good thing in addition to being potentially very dangerous for anyone near this. The same is true for non-submersible pumps UNLESS the pump is an on-demand style pump or it's connected to a pressure switch and pressure tank.

I am looking at a Simer 2385. I want to lower the water level in my lagoon. I just want to take 12 to 18 inches of water off the top. The solids will all be at the bottom, so will only pump water. Would like to spray the water on the grass I am starting on the back side of the lagoon. I would hold the hose, and try to use a device on the end to make a spray pattern. I see one person used this to water grass out of a pond, so I am wondering if this will work for my situation, and would have enough pressure to do this.. Also wanted to know how long the cord is on this one.

Answer
Thank you for visiting Water Pumps Direct. in answer to your question, the Simer 2385 comes with an 8 foot power cord and the pump will not provide much pressure if you are connecting a spray nozzle to the end of the hose. While this pump is not specifically designed for this application, there have been cases of people using it successfully for watering their grass and I could only suggest that you can take your chances for your particular application. I wish I had a better answer for you, but I cannot guarantee anything since I cannot possibly know exactly how you intend to set this up.
