Tried Them, Took Them Off
By Lloyd B.

I live in northern NH and live on a steep gravel driveway. I have the Ariens compact 24 with 15" tires that needed a little help so after some reading i purchased these chains. They are not the greatest to get on snug but with some adjustment they install ok.
So my biggest problem was the cold snow sticking to the metal chain itself, it would then turn into big iced over chain causing the tired to not roll, they bounced, imagine each chain link twice a big coated with ice. I would beat it off and would just keep sticking. After 3 storms it was working me to death so i took them off. Has no one else experience this?

The item arrived on time. The packaging was a little flimsy. Chains were of a heavy-duty quality. Were easy to install. I added chain tensioners on my own. They worked well with deep lug tires.

Tire Chains

The chains came with three extra links attached. I had to use bolt cutters to remove them. The connector link keeps coming undone, and the chains don't stay in place. They keep migrating to different positions when I use my machine. The tires with chains spin sometimes when on an incline or on ice.

These are very similar to some branded chains I had on an older snow blower. While it indicates these are for Ariens, I used them on a Cub Cadet. They are pretty heavy-duty and run at 90-degree angles to the tread. I am NOT a fan of cheaper chains that run diagonally across the tread.
Having installed these before, I recommend having large pliers and vise-grips available to both get them snug and squeeze the open links closed. I did have to use a Sawzall to remove a couple of extra links, but you could use zip ties to secure those if you don't have the option of cutting them off.

Inadequate Locking Links

I followed the instruction carefully when first installing these chains. I have now installed them three times, and they fell off sixteen-inch tires the first two times.
I believe the only reason the chains have not fallen off now related to the seizing wire I installed to secure the locking links.
