Mower Madness 2019 Winners Announced
Mowers Direct Crowns BOB-CAT 3x Champion
BOLINGBROOK, IL (April 16, 2019) - The sixth annual Mower Madness tournament from Mowers Direct has concluded with resounding victories: one for this year's tournament champion, and another for the winner of a brand-new lawn mower in the first-ever Mower Madness Giveaway Contest!
After a spirited six-round elimination bracket in which over 102,000 total votes were cast, BOB-CAT MOWERS claimed the title of Mower Madness Champion for the third time in tournament history.
“My heartiest congrats to the most devoted and dedicated competitor, BOB-CAT!” said Jasmina Milankovic, category manager for Mowers Direct. “You deserve this victory for your loyalty, commitment, and determination – year after year. Congratulations!”
Mower Madness 2019 began with sixty-four of the best-known lawn mower brands in the United States facing off in head-to-head matchups. At every stage of the competition, brands such as Toro, John Deere, Ariens, and Cub Cadet rallied for a chance to seize the Mower Madness trophy.
From the start, fans voted enthusiastically for their top lawn mower brands. One matchup in Round 1 was decided by a mere six votes.
As the defending champion, BOB-CAT proved an early favorite through the first four rounds. Once it reached Round 5 as part of the “Favorite Four,” however, it faced a strong challenge from Honda. The two brands jostled for the top position until the absolute last minute. At the end of Round 5, BOB-CAT triumphed over Honda with 51% of the vote.
The championship round, known as the Final Cut, placed BOB-CAT against another fan favorite brand, Husqvarna. Husqvarna summoned its fans across social media for a show of support and gave BOB-CAT a vigorous fight.
In the end, BOB-CAT’s consistent enthusiasm and determined social media efforts carried the day. BOB-CAT clinched the Mower Madness title with 69% of the 3048 votes cast in the final round.
“What a victory – a ‘3-peat’ doesn’t happen very often and we aren’t taking this for granted,” BOB-CAT posted on its official Facebook page. “We so appreciate our dedicated distributors, our faithful independent dealers, and our loyal fan-base!”
BOB-CAT manufactures zero-turn, walk-behind, and stand-on mowers for consumer-level and commercial users. The company makes its products in the USA at its facility in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin.
This year also saw the debut of the Mower Madness Giveaway. Fans voting in each round were entered in a drawing to win a new lawn mower valued up to $500.
The winner selected at random at the end of the tournament was Chris P. of Memphis, Tennessee.
Previously, Chris had purchased a YARDMAX 28-ton log splitter from Power Equipment Direct and subscribed to PED's customer emails, which offered him product deals, how-to articles, and news about special events including Mower Madness. “I’m a March Madness freak,” he said, “so this was just fun.”
Chris, a self-employed carpenter for the past 20 years, chose a Toro Recycler self-propelled mower as his prize.
“A push mower would be great,” he said, explaining that he wanted a walk-behind mower to use at his home in Memphis so that he could keep his existing finish-cut mower at another property he owns in the Ozarks. Chris also appreciated the ease with which the Toro Recycler could be folded and stored away for more space in his garage.
His win demonstrated the enthusiasm for lawn care that the Mower Madness tournament embodies.
