This has been the worst experience of my life. We had Irma and I tried to save our food as the cost of medicine Is taking our very experience of life. The McCullough generator has proven to be crap.

Cons:
Low Quality, Unreliable
VERY POOR QUALITY

I bought one of these at a big box store in July of 2010, I've ran it maybe 5 or 6 times in those past few yrs. The 2nd time running it I had a pushrod break because I wasn't assembled correctly. I took it to be repaired NOT covered by manufacturer warranty. The last time I ran it I had wires catch on fire. It is storedifficult in my garage but run outside when it was in use, I do put fuel stabilizer in the gasoline. I will take it to be repaired again out of pocket. Manufacturer is useless. WILL NEVER buy a McCulloch again!

Poor Choice For A Generator
By Mike
Ohio
Review Posted 05/13/2013
I don't have many hours on this unit and I already have trouble with parts falling off and/or breaking. It's strange how something that rarely gets touched can't hold it self together, now it is leaking gas all over. One of the motor mounts broke so when I try to start the engine, the entire motor pivots, then returns back to its original position. Lost one of the rubber feet within the 1st year of ownership.

Good generator

Very good generator. Basic issue is push rod wearing and breaking. Problem is most parts (push rods and guide plate) are discontinued and are very hard to find, if at all. Best have a good friend with spare parts.

Saved me... again
By John

Review Posted 09/01/2012
I bought this generator soon after Hurricane Katrina hit our area (Slidell, LA.) and used it for months to power my trailer while rebuilding my home.
It was put away in my shed (dry of fuel / ran engine until it quit / oil change) until recently when Tropical Storm Isaac (turned into a Category 1 Hurricane) hit.
I put gasoline in it, pulled the starter twice and the generator started! I ran it for 2 days with zero issues.
I did the same procedure again when storing it in the shed.
It worked great for me.

McCulloch Generator

Purchased for emergency back up power, and it has performed well running my whole house. As mentioned in other posts, the fuel cap leaks fuel whenever you move the generator, very poor designed fuel cap, no replacement has been found.
I also have a running issue. Starts alittle hard, and then the engine powers up and down to almost a stall and back up, and will do this for a minute or so, then level off and run long as you want. Doesn't matter what you do with the choke, it still revs and dies until about a minute of it's fit, then will run long as I want it. I guess it doesn't like waking up? or cold blooded?
I need to find a shop to see it can be corrected, otherwise it has ran my whole house. I would not not another one. I would buy something bigger and with electric start. It is a cheap import, but I'm sure most are these days. I have had it run for days non stop and only hours other times, works well after it gets going.

Purchased generator in 2005 have ran it about 200 hours and a push rod broke. Now I cannot find any parts to repair it; found out the engine is manufactured in Taiwan & it is a piece of junk.

A great buy!

After Hurricane Ike came through, I purchased this generator and ran it for nine days straight, with no problems at all.
I changed the oil three times by the time I had 100 hours on it and I ran a refrigerator, a window unit, several TV's, fans, the Playstation, and several lamps all at one time, and it never budged. Great Product!

Solid performance for 15 days straight
By Hilary T

Review Posted 09/19/2008
We purchased our generator two days before Katrina hit in 2005. We then ran it for 15 days straight without it missing a beat. The only times we stopped it was to refill the tank and change the oil.
We put it away and didn't run it for close to three years. Last week after Ike hit we had to fire it up and it worked perfectly for two days until power was restored.
We would happily buy another if needed.
