Owned it for 6 years, MTD 5hp with electric start.. Very good me

Works great. All snow throwers have 2 belts and a friction ring which require cleaning. All have many adjustments which can loosen. If you can't do the maintenance yourself have a dealer work on it every 2 seasons. Otherwise your going to have problems and complain like a girl.

Track drives (Not A Review)

Good Evening:
Alhough it well into the evening hour, I would like to point out the other two manufactures....Honda and Troybuilt. Honda is well, if you want to spend a bazillion dollars to throw snow, by all means go for it. On the other hand, I purchased a Troybuilt with these specs:208cc Dual-Stage 26" Gas Snow Blower
Great for heavy snowfalls and icy conditions
Serrated steel augers cut through snow for faster clearing
A choice of 6 forward and 2 reverse speed selections gives you versatility in any weather conditions
Cleated tracks provide superior traction and stability
Weight transfer system makes it easy to maneuver in any snow condition or for transporting and storage
Touch 'n Turn™ power steering allows you to turn with the touch of a finger
Heated hand grips for added comfort in cold conditions
4-way joystick control lets you adjust direction and height of snow discharge
Just One Hand® operation with clutch lock makes turning easy
In-dash headlight and reflective stripes on the auger housing provide added safety in low visibility conditions
Extended chute design minimizes snow blowback on operator
I can turn with one hand and turn it on a dime. It has a great feature of transport mode, a regular mode and a deep snow setting. It also has hand warmers and a place to store two extra sheer bolts. Speakling of which the shear bolts are a cotter pin design, so no need to get out the wrenches when a mishap occurs. I purchased this model in September at the meazly cost of 900.00 (that's 600 dollars less than the Ariens). I saw a demo on YouTube of the Troybuilt and the snow that get's thrown from this puppy goes 30 feet high....yes...It can throw snow over a single story house. It can throw snow 50 feet in any direction and all of this can be adjusted with one hand! I think it is by far one of the best thought out pieces of equipment to accomplish it's assigned tasks. Oh the engine is a kawasaki clone. I own a kawasaki motor cycle (600 Eliminator) and it runs like a cut cat. Oh well, I said my peace. When I heard this site mention the fact that track drive snowblowers were hard to steer. I was like NOPE! Gp

It's Still Snowing
By David

Review Posted 12/27/2008
There's somewhere between 40 and 50 inches on the ground. It's snowed everyday for about 2 weeks. It's snowing NOW. And, my POS Yard Machine just quit running. Time to upgrade. The Californians that moved to Spokane (and there are alot of them), haven't come out yet.

Why the Closeout?

MTD had a limited supply of excess snow blowers from last winter.
They had 40 left, and we took every one. Why?
Last year's models feature Tecumseh Snow King engines. They're specially designed for snow blowers and do a phenominal job.
MTD's newer models feature new engines. They're good. Just not top of the line.
In addition to a great engine, we got them at a great price. We're passing the savings on to you.
We expect all 40 to be sold before the first snow flake falls this winter.
