Potential To Be The Best....
By Leo R.
San Francisco, California
Review Posted 11/30/2016
Hello to all. I have been going back and forth with my search to upgrade my old electric PW. Main use would be for weekly house upkeep and washing my vehicle.

Originally started w/ a 1500psi and decided to "pull the trigger" and go w/ the K5 Premium 2000psi 1.4gm. Also I wanted something w/ a little more power in order to partake in a glorious foam party w/ a MTM hydro foamer for my car.

Paid a couple more dollars for faster shipping and waited for it to be delivered. It arrived earlier today and was packaged appropriately. First observation was that it was a lot heavier than expected which I know doesn't always equate to better quality, but It's hard to not have that concept cross your mind.

After following the somewhat detailed setup instructions and ready to start hooking up the necessary hoses...something strange caught my eye. I thought to myself...this can't be right. Plastic threading on the inlet??? Plastic quick connect???? I just payed 3 times the amount of my first PW and the inlet on the one being replaced has metal.. I was perplexed, but was trying to stay positive and give it a shot. I finished hooking up everything correctly and as I'm admiring my new toy I turned everything on ready to go....water shooting everywhere from the hose/inlet connection. I stopped everything and tried to figure out the cause/issue, but nothing worked. I used 3 different hoses but the same thing occurred every time.

Eventually I just went ahead and tried to make the best of a horribly disappointing experience and see if the unit would even work. After about 5 minutes of use I was surprised that everything seemed to work as normal. The one thing besides having water shooting out of the hose/inlet area was that when adjusting the wand if it wasn't on full pressure..water would just dribble out. On full pressure it seemed to work fine.

After searching youtube , reading numerous reviews on here and on similar sites I must admit that there have been a whole lot of issues w/ these PW...but still people are continually purchasing them and there is a simple reason.....when they work....they are the best! but after spending a good amount of my funds I feel my PW should be a little more reliable and consistent.

I have gained some insight after reading reviews specifically on this site and will try to diagnose/repair my unit. I'd rather not go through the process of having to replace mine for another one...also, I think it would be beneficial to "get to know" my PW since I do consider it and investment.

Also, I do believe I read that it is possible to replace the quick connect on the inlet w/ a metal one?? I do not see one available on the accessories page, but maybe I am missing something. Sorry for the long review and thank you in advance for any and all advice.

We appreciate your thoughtful and thorough review! A couple wraps of Teflon pipe tape (at grocery & hardware stores for less than a dollar) around the inlet threads should stop any leaks- please also make sure there is a new hose gasket (about 25 cents anywhere hoses are sold) in the garden hose connector as well.

The wand should put out a full spray no matter where it is adjusted- unless it is not-quite clicked all the way into the low pressure/soap setting. If you still have a problem, please give the folks at Karcher a call at (800) 537-4129 so they can send you another spray wand under your Factory Warranty. Please also have the serial number of your pressure washer handy when you call- they will ask for it.

Karcher is the largest producer of pressure washers on the planet. With so many of their pressure washers sold it may seem as if there are a lot of issues, but based on the quantity of units they sell their failure rate is actually quite low. Karcher's Rapid Replacement warranty program resolves new unit issues quickly and with very little hassle.

An Excellent Pressure Washer
By Sheldon W.

Review Posted 06/14/2016
I purchased the Karcher K5.740 2000 PSI pressure washer last year and intentionally waited to write this review because in the past I have had gas powered pressure washers that worked great the first year and then broke down the second year.

I used this one all last spring, summer and fall for such things as cleaning the house, deck, bird baths, fence and a few other miscellaneous things. The 2000 psi pressure was more than adequate to clean off years of mildew buildup on the deck.

It is extremely easy to use compared to a gas powered washer, just plug it in, attach the hose and turn it on. This year it is working just as well. Am cleaning the house now after doing numerous small jobs and will be doing my neighbors house after mine.

An excellent product!

Waiting For Some Good

I put it together after receiving it and it doesn't work properly. It goes between high and low pressure like its having a seizure. Very disappointing, then I go back on your site to check out the product again to find it has been discontinued a week after I ordered it.

Luckily Karcher had a rapid exchange program and they are sending me a new one since it had a warranty. I have not received the new one yet. I am praying it works.

I understand that seeing the big, red Discontinued status can be disconcerting, but please be aware that Karcher updates their models regularly. Once we sell through the ones we have in the warehouse we tag that model as Discontinued and start selling the new one. Just because it has changed status doesn't mean it's not a good machine; it's just not the current model any more.

Karcher's Factory Warranty is good throughout their entire warranty period. If they didn't have the exact model you needed replaced they would ship you a better one at no additional charge.

The issue you describe could also be a case of the pump not getting enough water to work properly. Please make sure your garden hose is at least 5/8" in diameter, and your garden hose not longer than 100 feet. You also need to make sure you're on city water that will deliver at least 2 gallons per minute (how to determine that is on page 5 of your Owner's Manual).

We appreciate your business, and apologize for any inconvenience.

Not What I Thought

Hose real is nice but I was disappointed overall with it. Not being able to adjust it to a fine point is not good the other tip for it does a circle that I have found totally useless.

I am sure it’s good for something I just can’t figure out what. I have had many pressure washers and I would put this with a Harbour Freight $79. Range without the hose real & soap injection. Blowing the grass out of a Lawnmower and getting the mud out of my little backhoe bucket I gave up on it and broke out a 15 year old 1300 psi Colman, replaced a few O-rings and did far better job in half the time.

I don’t know how many GPM the Colman is but I borrowed a 1.4 gpm 1800 psi BriggsStraton and it was far better than the Karcher. I will keep it till I can find a replacement “after I see it work” then give it to one of my kids. Trying to wash the house I gave up and went to a no name brand I have had here for a few years bought off eBay for $40.

If the Karcher gets more than 3 feet away its useless where the old unit off eBay I keep here will move enough water to wash the guttering & walls to the top. Sorry about a bad review but that’s what I have found so far.

Page 11 in your Owner's Manual describes how the nozzles work, and what they are used for. There are 2 nozzles; one has an end that you can twist from right to left to set the spray width from narrow to wide. If you have it clicked all the way into the Soap position you will get a lower pressure spray.

The other is a turbo (or rotary) nozzle- the one that "does a circle". It has a strong pencil jet that spins to flush out dirt from nooks and crannies in hard surfaces. It's not recommended for siding, painted surfaces, or decks since may damage them.

To get the best performance from this unit you need to make sure it is getting enough water- you should have at least a 5/8" garden hose hooked up to city water (not a well).

If you feel your pressure washer isn't performing properly, please give the folks at Karcher a call, toll free at (800) 537-4129. Please have the serial number of your unit handy when you call them. This unit is part of their Rapid Exchange Program- they will send you a replacement unit.

Works Great Until It Dies Just Beyond Warranty.

Review Posted 05/14/2016
Purchased this unit in Feb 2015 mainly to use it for washing cars and other projects around the house. After using it for a few months the unit would come on but not generate any pressure. I contacted Karcher and participated with their Rapid Exchange Program.

They shipped me a new one and told me to throw away the old one. The support was great. The new unit worked great until this past weekend when I went to go use it and it worked for a few seconds and then the breaker popped. It wasn't the GFI which tripped, but the actual breaker in the panel. I thought it was strange so I reset the breaker and tried it again. Same thing. When you turn on the unit, the motor makes a humming sound like it is trying to turn, but it continues to blow the breaker.

Since it is now out of the warranty I guess I am out of luck. I now regret not buying the Kranzle unit which is more expensive, but hopefully would be more reliable.

Bought a Karcher Electric K5.65 from a big box store in Canada about 3 years ago. My brother bought a similar unit. We both used it two times each and it started leaking from below.

Out of warranty now so took it apart. In both, the plastic control pressure head cracked.Too expensive to fix. I'll put both in the garbage. Never more Karcher!

The main cause of this leak we've found to be storing the unit someplace where it will freeze, and not using Karcher's Pump Guard product over the winter.

Following the instructions in the Owner's Manual about winterizing your pressure washer is the best way to extend it's service life in colder climates.

This unit is covered by Karcher's Rapid Exchange Program while the unit is under their 1 Year Factory Warranty.

I checked our files, and I'm sorry, but your warranty period has expired. You still should be able to get a replacement soap dispenser by calling Karcher directly at (800) 537-4129. They will also be able to advise you about the availability of other replacement parts.

Please be sure to have the serial number of your unit handy when you call Karcher; that way they can make sure they send you the correct parts.

Not Worth The Money

I purchased this machine in October of 2012. I have used it 3 times since then. It started to leak from the bottom of the machine the third time it was used. So now I am looking to have the leak repaired so I can use the machine. I called Karcher to find an authorized dealer which I then contacted. The authorized repair dealer recommended NOT having this fixed. It would cost more than buying a new machine. I am so disappointed.

I would never buy another Karcher product for this reason. By the way, any machine that is not at least a K5 WILL NOT BE FIXED by any authorized repair place. The rep from Karcher told me that.

Repairing small electric appliances is no longer cost-effective, which is why Karcher has their Rapid Exchange Program for their electric pressure washers. If your machine is still under warranty Karcher will replace it with a similar or better model.

Since your unit has only been used 3 times in 4 years I would hope it was stored with Karcher's Pump Guard in it, per the Owner's Manual. This product keeps the seals from drying out and keeps the pump parts lubricated when it's not in use. If the seals dry out and crack the pump will leak and no longer function.

We appreciate your business, and sympathize with your disappointment.

We at Karcher thank you for the feedback. Though your unit is 2.5 years past warranty, we are replacing it with a new one for you.

Products are built to be used, not abused nor sitting for long periods of time which can cause some of the seals to dry out and leak. It's the same as an automobile which should not sit for long periods of time but should be driven on occasion.

You will get the best performance and longest life from your pressure washer if you follow the Winterizing and Storage instructions in your Owner's Manual. It is very common for pressure washers to die prematurely because they've been allowed to freeze.

Using Karcher's Pump Saver over the winter will help a lot. If you have hard water, using it occasionally through the summer will also help keep the pump seals lubricated.
