Not What I Was Hoping For
By Curtis C.

This mower is harder to push than I expected. When using the controls it moves very quickly. So, between the two options, hard to turn corners, and get under and around trees. Very solid mower for sure, but I probably overbought for my needs.

So Good I Bought It A Second Time

Bought this one to replace the first one that was over ten years old that was abused by a teenage son who hated mowing the lawn. It still ran but was rough around the edges. I bought this new one because it has the best combination of features, self-propelled and the blade clutch for the money. I almost moved up to the HRX but didn't think another $200 was worth it. BTW I gave the old one to the aforementioned teenage son who now is an adult and homeowner now and uses it still.

This is my second Honda in 20 years. The first one would have lasted longer but I hit something covered in the grass and bent the shaft. This model is easy to handle and I love the blade break! it starts on the first pull every time! this Honda will probably last the rest of my life. Easy.

Paddles

Everything is great with this mower except for the paddles which control the speed of the self propulsion. I can see it would bother my thumbs if I had more than half an acre to mow.

Might Find A Better Product A Bit Cheaper
By Kurt V.

This is a nice mower however, you need to check the height in relation to the depth of the grass before use. I discovered, unlike my older Craftsman which just "powered" through thicker grass, the Honda has to be pushed slower or the engine bogs and stops. Further, the left rear wheel which drives the "self propelled" function loses traction easily if the resistance from the grass is too great. A larger traction wheel with a better tread might solve this. I like the mower but didn't expect to have to regulate the amount of manual "pushing" or apply additional pressure to the drive wheel to get it to function properly.

Reliability & Easyness Come Together

I bought this for a birthday present for my brother, to replace a John Deere mower. We loved the Johne Deer, and own a riding mower too. The Honda is everything we wanted (I have to help mow too). As much as we loved the John Deere for a walk behind mower, the Honda is more controllable and easier to turn. The paddle controls are a dream. The pace is so easy to manage. When unboxed, the pull started the engine! All we did was add the oil and gas, and first pull we were mowing! Plenty of power for a thick lawn that had not been mowed in months, as it had been raining all season.
Plenty of positions for handle, and even the forward controls adjust to your hands! The mulch and bag have the simplest knob adjustments I have ever used! What else can I say? It's a Honda assembled in America with some U.S parts and a great warranty.

I have only used the mower once. There is a definite learning curve with this lawnmower. The variable speed drive takes some getting used to. I have only had a single constant speed mower before. Once I became accustomed to it, it worked well. My only objection is that when mowing around shrubbery, it is easy for low limbs to push the throttle lever back to the "Stop" position. This will simply be a matter of adjustment as well. The blade brake clutch is a very nice feature and great to have.

Great Mower

I had a Craftsman with Honda engine and similar features for 16+ years hoping this will last also, have used a couple of times starts right up. Love blade stop feature, easy to assemble, mows great, the only issue was with Fed Ex ground delivery who lost shipment for several days and kept promising and failing to meet delivery several days in a row.

Good Machine

The last machine I had was easy to adjust the mowing height, one lever adjusted all four wheels. The direct drive is complicated if you have some unevenness in your lawn you find yourself getting jerked because it’s not set permanently.
