Earthquake Pull Behind Mower
By Elizabeth B
Florida
Purchased 03/12/2023 |
Review Posted 04/19/2023
1- Delivery took 3.5 weeks not 2-5 days
2- Delivery truck could not get it off the truck delivery rescheduled
3- Delivered into the road only packed in wood base in metal frame. They expected us to be able to move it out of the road.
4- Battery dead.
5- Belt burned up in first 1-3 minutes of operation.
6- 2nd belt burned up in 5 minutes
7- No belts Available
This was the WORST purchase made- not operating and no way to move it. No instructions on how to trouble shoot the belt adjustments- just risk $79 belt and make a blind guess.

Well Built Machine, But Keep A Wrench Handy
By Frank L.

Review Posted 09/04/2022
This is a heavy-duty brush cutting machine, but there seem to be quality-control problems at the factory. Of course, it's built in China! Within the first 30 seconds of use the belt came off because #1, very poor instructions came with it, and #2, the belt guides were not adjusted correctly and/or loose. When the belt came off it took the insulation off the power wire to the starter, and that was because the wires under the engine were routed incorrectly, and positioned dangerously close to the belt. It took me about an hour, but I was able to reroute and repair the wires and adjust and tighten the belt guides correctly. I used it to brush a 5 mile section of my "driveway" and it performed admirably. If you're willing to be ready with a wrench, it's a pretty decent cutting machine.

It's A Workhorse
By Amy I.

Review Posted 08/02/2022
Bought this early this spring for a recreational property for areas where large mowing and brush cutting equipment can't go. I have not had any of the reported belt or pully issues at all. This is one powerful cutter and it has kept all the trails rideable and walkable for the entire season being towed behind an SXS It has been used in really rough areas as well as grassy areas and it continues to produce a nice cut- the key is going slow enough to keep the mower from bouncing excessively in bumpy areas.
This mower has started right up every time and a tank of gas goes much further than I would have otherwise expected. I know folks have had mixed experiences given some of the belt issues with this mower but I took a chance because this mower has a better warranty, has more features such as the offset hitch, front and rear chains, has higher horsepower than its main competitor, and comes with a quality battery. All while costing several hundred dollars less.
I did immediately convert the tongue to a ball style hitch and will probably replace the tires with a heavier duty style with a more aggressive tread and traction capability. I do wish it had a remote cable to both engage and disengage the blade from the tow vehicle but that is the only feature I feel I'm missing. Bottom line though, for the money this mower is everything I hoped it would be and I am 100% satisfied with its performance and reliability to date and I have not babied it whatsoever.

Mows Great When It's Working

The belt kicked off in the first 5 minutes of mowing. I wasn't sure what had happened but was so upset it had quit mowing. I waited 3 weeks to get this mower. I put the belt on and mowed 4 hours of some nasty weeds, saplings, and fallen branches. It ran great through all of that.
I think it's just that goofy engage lever and the idler pulley that are the weak points. Releasing the blades too fast or allowing it to go past the mechanical stop seems to cause problems.
I see others have a tethered remote start, remote engage, and remote engine speed. Sure would be nice to start, stop, and engage the blades from the seat of my Ranger. Overall it's a time saver over the 6' brush hog on my tractor.

Follow-Up
By Eric G

Review Posted 07/13/2022
This is a follow-up to my prior review. After 3 conversations with Earthquake's (excellent) customer service department they sent me an "upgraded" belt. I happy to say that belt stays in place so that I can actually use the mower. Although the matter is resolved I still won't recommend this product. Why they don't make the "upgraded" belt standard is odd. I suspect the customer service department is so good is because they get a lot of experience.

Brand new. Blades won't engage. It's an expensive piece of junk. I suggest spending your money on another brand.

Strong & Dependable

After seeing the angle iron crate/shipping containment, I was sure there must be something valuable to spend that much money protecting it!....I was impressed.
After taking care of the extremely frustrating issue with the mower drive belt jumping off pulley, which I fixed myself because it would mean taking it to a service location and more down time, the warranty IMMEDIATELY express mailed me the repair solution & was out in the field. It will eat anything I drive my quad over which is a sapling not larger than 1 1/2" max. It is just what we had hoped for in strength and heavy duty dependability. It took a couple of extra weeks to get there but we are happy with our purchase!
In addition, perhaps the most useful feature is the "off-set" towing option and ease of "disengagement" rope pull function

Very Powerful Rough Cut Mower
By Manuel P.
Aviston, Illinois
Purchased 03/13/2022 |
Review Posted 04/28/2022
This is a powerful, well built rough cut mower. It really does cut heavy saplings and brush like the description says. I use it in the mountains of Idaho to keep brush, grasses, and saplings away from the house and barn to mitigate fire danger.

It came well packed on a steel frame crate with no damage. You attach the draw bar, hook up the battery, fill the crankcase with oil, and you are good to go. It took more time to uncrate it than it does to set up the machine.

This machine is more powerful and costs hundreds less than another popular brand, yet it has a better warranty. All in all this was a solid purchase.
