Answer
This DeWalt model DH4240B does have a low oil shutdown sensor on the Honda GX engine. Actually all Honda GX engines have this feature along with a compression release for easy starting.
The pump on this machine does come with an unloader valve to allow the pump to start easier under pressure. However, it is always recommended to start a larger size pressure washer while you have the trigger gun squeezed.

I'm looking at the Dewalt DH4240 model (4200 PSI / 4 GPM) for a prosumer application.
What is the significance of a belt-drive model versus direct drive? Which is better and why?
Thanks,

Answer
A belt driven machine is better than a shafted direct drive model. A belt driven pressure washer will absolutely last longer than a direct drive unit. The reason is that there is virtually no heat transferred from the engine to the pump since it is not directly mounted to the engine. Less heat transfer means less wear and tear on the internal seals of the pump. Heat is the #1 killer of pressure washer pump seals.
Also, a belt driven pump is a better quality pump overall than a direct drive version due to the fact that through the pulleys the pump will run at a lower rpm than the engine will. Belt driven pumps have less moving parts which means less part that can be worn down. If you are not going to use this pressure washer in a business application, the direct drive model would be sufficient for your use and would still last a long time.
