  1 Question
Q: what is the purpose of skid shoes? why choose a 3-stage over a 2-stage snowblower? Isn't an LED preferable to a halogen headlight?
by Alan Sedell from New Jersey on October 19, 2015

A: Alan,

Skid shoes are designed to allow the auger housing to “float” just above the surface that you are plowing. This comes in handy for gravel driveways, crushed rock, pavers, uneven surfaces or slightly raised areas, and soft surfaces that can get marred by the auger housing. With the auger raised slightly, you are less likely to bulldoze gravel and stones into the yard and allow you to follow the contour of the surface so the blade doesn’t catch or chatter.

The 3-stage units provide you with a third auger bit which provides up to 50% more than a 2-stage snow blower. The heavy duty steel auger gathers and moves snow to the center where the new induction accelerator chops up and pushes snow to the high performance 4-blade impeller which throws snow out discharge chute.

In regards to the headlights, this is a user preference opinion but many want much more light than what the halogen bulb can give us, as well as better reliability than a halogen bulb. The search for something brighter and more reliable ends with the LED light. LED's (Light Emitting Diode) are extremely efficient, very bright, and have thousands of hours of reliable use.

Power Equipment Direct Recommended

The Cub Cadet 24HP is equipped with a powerful 208cc Cub Cadet OHV engine, which has more than enough torque to handle the heaviest of snow fall. Stocked with a standard 120-Volt electric start, all you do is press a button and go, even in the coldest temperatures.

This model will also come equipped with zero turn Posi-Steer™ Power Steering, making turning a breeze and allowing the user to complete the task at hand in a shorter amount of time.

The convenience does not stop there either!... more

Not Pleased Considering Cub Cadet Is A Strong Brand
We purchased our Cub Cadet three years ago for $799.00. For the past two winters, it ran great. We also winterized it properly. In 2016, the coil broke and the starter went out on it.

A cool $300 later, and we are up and running again. If I were to buy another snow thrower, we are going with Toro as Cub Cadet does not stand up to the competition.
Cons: Unreliable

No Snow Yet, But A Fun Read
I purchased a Cub Cadet 24HP to replace my 47 year old Gilson 24”, 5 horse, snow blower, a very well built machine with chain drive. The blower worked perfectly, but the 5 HP B&S engine was shot.

It arrived on October 5th and I thought I’d take it for a test drive. Going through the instruction manual, I noticed you have to check out whether the controls are working properly. I checked the engine for oil and found it to be full. One thing I noticed, not only do you have to check the oil... more

Cub Cadet First Impressions
Snowblower was delivered by tractor trailer on 11/23, two days after a 24" snowfall. Driver was very helpful. It was packaged on a skid and needed some assembly which was straightforward except for the adjustment of the shift rod as outlined in steps 7, 8 and 9 on page 12 of the Owner's Manual. The upper end of the shift rod on my model does not have a washer but an offset ferrule that has to be at a 90 degree angle to the hole to be removed. I installed the recommended oil and when I... more

"I was concerned that an item such as snowblower would be susceptible to damage during shipping but the model I wanted was not generally stocked in local stores. I decided to order from Snow Blowers Direct and the snowblower and accessories were delivered as expected and in good condition. Snow Blowers Direct performed d as they said they would."
