On 7th Year
By Terry P.

Review Posted 04/10/2023
Starts first pull every time...you can't let it set all winter with old gas. Dump or run gas out at the end of the season. Will start fine the next year.

7 Years And Still Going Strong
By Randy W.

I don't know what the fuss is about this mower. I just finished my 7th year with it and other than a yearly spark plug, oil change and air filter I've done nothing and it starts 1st pull. I cut a 1/4 acre and sharpen the blade once a month with a file. Cuts grass perfect. No complaints. FYI ... My last craftsman mower lasted 13 years. That one was as good as this one. Started every spring first cut. Did I get lucky twice? I doubt it. I just believe they are good mowers with good engines.

i have this exact mower

i have this mower, and the only thing I ever had to do was replace the spark plugs. I know it's a home owner model. I use it to mow lawns and it does just fine - i think even better than the commerical grade. I love it, and i plan on buying another one come spring time.

Brand new, mowed once, won't start.
By Ben

Review Posted 03/25/2016
This is really one of those times I wish I had listened to the reviews. I saw a few bad ones and thought I'd test my luck. Well, here I am. I purchased this over the winter for what I thought was a good deal. I mowed my lawn once and it ran fine. The second time, merely a week later, it won't start.

Runs horrible for a few minutes, dies, and then won't start. I've replaced the gas, added stabilizer, replaced spark plugs. No luck. Just ridiculous from a brand new mower. If you're reading this, trust me. You're better off with something else. I wouldn't be dealing with fixing a BRAND NEW mower if I had listened to other reviewers.

Misinformed customers.

I have owned my mower for 2 years+ no problems. But I also use to work for Sears so I already knew the "problems" but not hard to find them out when you do research. The only problem this particular mower has is a spark plug problem as well as the majority of the Briggs & Stratton motors produced in the few years. Rj2le or what ever spark plug it comes with just needs to be replaced with an rj19lm $3.

Also it's not a sales pitch when they offer the replacement oil and fuel stabilizer. The oil needs to be replaced after the 1st 5 hours & fuel stabilizer needs to be in any and ALL gasoline. Gas goes stale after 30 days of sitting in the container. Fuel stabilizer extends the life up to 90 days. If you don't use 1 gallon of gas in 3 months you are not mowing your lawn enough. Also your mower or any gas product shouldn't be sitting for longer than 3 days with out being started to run fluids through it.

Don't Buy this Mower

I have only used this mower 5 times and the self-propell system on one wheel is stripped out and it is impossible to start. It died again in the middle of mowing my yard. I will never buy a Craftsman or Briggs motor again.

Wait Just A Minute...
By J. C.

Review Posted 06/15/2015
Just can't believe what I am reading here. I purchased this exact mower model two years ago from a local Craftsman store and it has been the best mower I have ever ownedr. It replaces a 20 year old Poulan Pro, an even older Weedeater (also Poulan) and even a newer rebuilt zero-turn Ariens push-mower which I love but it won't cut straight due to the swivel wheels...

Now I am not a "fanboi" of Craftsman by any means my ex- owns a low-end and badly-made entry level Craftsman mower but it still starts and does the job and has lasted her five years so far, for only a "buck-fifty" ($150.00).

My 37037 cost right about three hundred plus tax, and has started every single time for me it cuts even eight inch high damp grass without complaint and thoroughly mulches almost perfectly when I'm not bagging around my corner walkways and property edges.

Yes, I could easily have afforded a Honda or any other high end machine that I wanted (this one is very VERY much like the #1 and #3 top Cub Cadet walk behind push mowers), but I settled on this one just to try it the quality seemed mid-rangish in the store, not cheap the handle is tight, it pivots very easily on the large wheels, is easy to push even with a mostly full Bag of clippings, it cuts laser straight LONG paths (I have 1/3 acre corner lot) and uniformly and evenly without much overlap each pass. The original blade is still that sharp only needed a once touch up with a rasp this year- not even five minutes!

Again, really can't believe what I'm reading with all the negative Craftsman hate, especially on this model. I probably speak for a silent majority who are very happy with this machine. Sorry if that doesn't jibe with the diatribes folks- again I am no Craftsman fan, but this thing honestly outperforms my $800 Ariens and even my cross-neighbors little push Honda.

Time will tell of course, but my 37037 is a sleek, reliable, and powerful black beauty and well worth the ticket. The plastic has not been a liability (yet) and I do not doubt it will weaken over time, but it won't rust and be worthless, and I'll gladly replace it with some new cheap polymers when the time comes.

Color me contrary, but this is a five star machine and is mid-high-range quality for a low-mid or even high-entry-level price. Bank on that!

Thanks for reading.

Some Plastic But Won't Rust
Second Repair for Same Thing
By Jim T.

Review Posted 04/08/2015
My mower wouldn't start late last July & brought back to Sears since it was only a year old. Almost 2 weeks later was returned stating carburetor was "junked up", air filter clogged & spark plug fouled. The machine was not being used on anything but a medium suburban yard.

Well now it is April 2nd & it won't start again. Brought back on April 3rd (Saturday) & was told it would sit in warehouse for 1 week because they pick up on Fridays & it was a Saturday, then told it may be April 24th before it is ready. Would not offer to exchange unit even though manager stated it shouldn't be having the same problem. But it is! Terrible, stuck with it since it is barely 2 years old. Don't buy this product.

Horrible product
By Joe T.
Lake worth, Florida
Review Posted 06/02/2014
Purchased this after owning a Ryobi for 11 years.
After owning less than 8 months and very little use used less than 10 times, it won't start. Sears repair is the worst I've ever seen, they charge $125 just to look at it, and will have the mower for 3 weeks minimum before they will tell you how much it costs. Wish I would've have pick another brand. Last time I buy a Craftsman product!
