Bad clutch
By Wayne

Review Posted 06/18/2014
Loved mower when purchased but then clutch went out. Was replaced under warranty but then went out again and at $700.00 not worth the trouble.

Worst machine ever

Started with a dead battery then needed all kinds of deck adjustments then the spark plug wire broke. When you cut grass it slides all over the lawn it also leaves trails of grass also put new blades, high lift for a better cut but didn't work. The machine is poorly designed.

Does a great job and seems to be high quality. There is a short learning curve if you have never used one of these types of machines. Be patient and it will be enjoyable to use. Saves a lot of time.

I received my ZOOM 34 last week and mowed my lawn in 27 minutes first time. Tips-Spend $50 to have unload off truck. Use sawzaw to cut crate. Read about how to disengage transmission to push off crate. Takes two people to move off crate. Make sure you have it on fast speed to mow lawn. Don't make sudden turns or it will damage lawn. Great piece of American craftsmanship A+++++++++.

Worst Mower Ever
By Dennis
Iowa
Review Posted 11/29/2012
I have a lawn service and purchased the Zoom 34 to mow small residential lawns. It arrived with a dead battery which is not such a big deal. However, the way the mower tears up my customer's lawn is a very big deal. The unit is too light and the tires too aggressive which results in serious damage to the turf when you turn. It is worhtless on any kind of slope and the paint on the deck peeled off the first time I used compressed air to clean the top of the deck. I find the review that claims to be able to mow a 12 acre lawn in record time a very big misrepresentation.

Needed Adjustments
By Bruce

I agree with Robert, from Florida, the deck and belts required some adjustments in order to work the way they are supposed to work. However, once properly adjusted, it is now running fine. Home Depot is not a store to find replacement/maintenance parts for this lawn mower. They did not carry any general maintenance parts: air filter, spark plug, blades, belts, and accessories for this Ariens mower even though it was purchased from them.

My 34" has a 13.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine and sometime struggles when the grass is a bit longer. It seemed to have enough power before I installed a bagger and counter weight. You can really feel the drag and reduction in maneuverability, when the bags are full. Maybe that is the reason they currently install a 14.5 hp.

The accessories (bagger, tow hitch) required several modifications during installation, and to function properly. I was very disappointed with the bagger, before I sealed the seams and riveted the plastic joints and shimmed it. The bagger is very expensive.

There must be a couple of decks variations out there because the mulching blade kit did not fit mine. I did not want to bend and drill holes to make it fit so I returned it.

If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, buy this mower, knowing you are going to have to tweak it some, right out of the box.
This is a good mower for yards, 1 acre or less with lots of obstacles. The ride is rough so if you do not have a smooth surface beware.

I have owned this mower for over two years now. It is my first zero turn, and it saves me about 35 minutes on a 2/3 acre lot with several tress and obstacles. The maintenance is simple, oil change (there is no oil filter), fuel filter and spark plug are easy to change.

Overall, I am satisfied with this purchase.

Issues in the beginning
By Robert
Pembroke Pines, Florida
Review Posted 08/09/2011
Bought mine at Home Depot. The belt came off in the first 10 minutes of cutting. After inspection the belt was defective. After the deck was torn apart in my garage I was off to get a new one. Home Depot was out. So they said. Anyway after driving around town I finally found one. Or should I say bought two. Mower needed all kinds of adjustments which I did myself. Works great now. Don't buy from Home Depot. Would have given a better rating if the product would have be right in the beginning.

Nice little mower
By Mike S.
Elma, New York
Review Posted 06/02/2011
Unit was delivered last week. Good setup instructions. Open up the hydraulic bypass valves (2) to get it off the pallet easier. (Read the instructions first.)

We've had frequent heavy rain this year and the lawn was 8" tall. I set the deck height on maximum and this machine handled it no problem. It tamed an awful lawn. I'm a first time ZTR owner, learning to operate was easy. With the rear engine it's much easier on the ears too. Excellent turning on flat ground or gentle slopes. I'm 6'-2" and this machine fits pretty well.

Unit was purchased for a .75 acre lawn with lots of trees and obstacles. (A wider model would not fit as well).

Unit is compact so mower deck does not stick out far from the mower body.
