When is the Best Time to Buy a Snow Blower

Some shoppers purposely wait until spring to purchase their snow thrower, hoping to find a great deal. Unfortunately, this strategy rarely works for snowblowers. How do we know? We already tried it.

Empty Shelves

Last March, we toured all the local retailers, looking to snag some bargains. In reality, we just found a bunch of junk. The big-box stores are very savvy buyers. They don't want to get stuck with excess inventory, so they keep their inventories strategically small.

That's why it's extremely difficult to even find snowblowers in-stock at the end of the season.

Long Lines for Snow Blowers

All of the good stuff is gone in January and even sooner if there has been lots of snow. Yes, you can probably find a snowblower in-stock in February (unless it's a snowy winter). However, you won't find anything worth buying.

Most snow blower manufacturers build a limited supply of snow blowers. Once they sell out, they don't restart production until early summer because they are busy building lawnmowers.

The best time to buy a snowblower is in May or June after the new models are introduced. This way, you can backorder a brand new model at a discount price instead of settling for some leftover that nobody wants.
