How to Make a Tax-Exempt Purchase

What Qualifies as Tax Exempt?

Tax exemption means you do not have to pay sales tax on products used for an authorized organization. Common examples of tax-exempt bodies include government institutions, churches, childcare providers, and non-profit organizations.
To determine whether your organization is tax-exempt, you must contact your state or local taxing authority. If approved, you will be issued tax-exempt documentation that verifies your status. Make sure to complete this step first before applying for tax exemption on our site as you will need to fill out documentation.

Make Purchases Using Tax-Exemption

You will have the opportunity to file your tax exemption either in your shopping cart before finalizing a purchase, or in your store account. Simply click on Complete Tax Exempt Registration Now.

Using the Tax-Exemption Portal

When you click to complete your tax exemption, you will be taken to the ECMS Certificate Selection Assistant (CSA) and follow a step-by-step program to verify your tax-exempt status.
The steps are as follows:
  1. Select the State in which you are tax exempt

  2. Select the type of tax-exemption certificate you will use (there is a wizard that will help you figure this out)

  3. Fill-out & Validate your tax-exempt certificate and supporting documents

  4. Confirm & Submit your tax-exempt information


Completing Your Order

Tax-Exempt Verification Step 

Once your tax-exempt information is saved, you will be ready to shop and select the "tax-exempt" option in your shopping cart. Your order will initially be placed on a temporary hold until the certificate has been verified by the 3rd-party site after which time you will receive an e-mail notifying you of the status.
