Product QuestionsAnswered by Jim, the Sump Pump Expert
Hi Jim,
Which battery would u recommend more? Also, is it possible to have someone local from Zoeller come in and install it with an existing 507 model?
a) The Zoeller Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 83AH Wet Battery
b) Zoeller Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 72AH AGM Battery.
Thanks,
Steve.

Answer
In all honesty, either battery would be just fine. The main difference is that the 72ah AGM battery is a maintenance free battery and the wet cell 83ah battery requires maintenance in that you do need to inspect the cells from time to time to insure that they are full. When low, they do need to be topped off with distilled water. In addition, the wet cell battery will provide a bit longer runtime for your pump.
Regarding the installation, you can try checking THIS LINK but I believe that you would need to get a local certified plumber to perform the installation for you. Terminals on BOTH batteries do also need to be inspected on a regular basis to insure that they are clean and free from corrosion.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

The Zoeller model 507 Battery Backup Sump Pumps System includes everything EXCEPT for the battery. We recommend the Zoeller Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 83AH Wet Battery, model 10-0761 or the Zoeller Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 72AH AGM Battery, model 10-145.

Looking down the road, if and when the pump fails / wears out, would I be able to replace it or do I need to replace the entire unit? Hence, would I be able to use the power inverter or controller with other pumps? Thanks.

These battery backup systems, like any other system are designed to work with their specific components only. If any one of them should fail, you could contact the MANUFACTURER and they would assist you in replacing the specific component.

Answer
Thank you for visiting Sump Pumps Direct. In answer to your question, battery ratings can get a bit confusing since ratings can be determined in amp hours (AH), amps and reserve minutes. While it's true that the manual does list the required minimum Amp Hour rating at 105, the Zoeller website also lists the following:
Battery Life:
The estimated life of a fully charged (175 minute reserve capacity) battery when the pump is operating continuously is approximately 7 ½ hours. Example – The model 510 at 10 ft. head will pump 1,296 GPH. Most backup systems require intermittent pump operation. All models will provide protection for extended periods of time dependent upon stop-start requirements. Note: The 510 offers extended backup protection if the regular primary sump pump fails.
Performance Data:
Pump performance is based on the use of a fully charged 12 Volt, (200 minute reserve capacity) for models 507 and 510, deep-cycle battery with no deficiency and less than two years old.
In addition, the manual for the 507 Sentry Battery Backup also lists the following:
There are millions of batteries manufactured each year, so it is impossible to guarantee consistent quality. A defective battery will never become fully charged and may damage the charging circuits of the Control. It is for this reason that Zoeller offers its own line of batteries. We offer both a Water/Acid Deep-Cycle Battery which can run the pump continuously for over 7½ hours, and a Maintenance-Free AGM Battery, which will power the pump for over 3½ hours. These times are based on continuous pumping at 10' of static head. Actual times will vary depending on static head, volume of water entering the pit, and the condition of the battery.
Follow these recommendations:
• Use a B.C.I. size 27 deep-cycle battery, 175 minute reserve capacity, or larger.
• Do NOT use a “maintenance-free” battery unless it is a Gel-fi lled or AGM battery.
• Replace your battery every 3 years.
• Do not let corrosion build up on the battery terminals.
• Do not place your battery on a concrete fl oor where it will discharge faster.
• To check specifi c gravity, follow the instructions on a hydrometer (not applicable for Gel or AGM batteries).

Can you use either a Maintenance Free Battery or a Acid Filled Battery with this model. I've had problems in the past with other backups that cannot use the Maintenance Free Batteries. The sets off saying the battery is bad.

Answer
Yes you can!
Per the product instructions, the DC emergency pump system requires a good quality, 12 volt battery to obtain maximum pumping time during a power outage. A deep cycle, 12 volt, 105 amp-hour marine battery or larger is recommended and will provide approximately 7½ hours of continuous pumping time in a sump pump installation with 8' of head pressure. In most installations the pump runs intermittently and the battery life is extended accordingly. Batteries with top terminals are recommended for ease of installation. These batteries contain acid and proper precaution must be taken when handling. Maximum battery size 12½" Length x 7" Width x 9½" Height.
The batteries that we recommend are the Zoeller Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 83AH Wet Battery, model 10-0761 or the Zoeller Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 72AH AGM Battery, model 10-145.
The estimated life of a fully charged (175 minute reserve capacity) battery when the pump is operating continuously is approximately 7 ½ hours.

I have a sump 2feet deep and 14in.wide at the bottom, thenhalf way up goes to16 in. Can I use a zoeller507 with this sytem. I have one discharge 1.25 in pvc line going outside.

Answer
You should be ok as long as you mount the pump to sit just above your primary pump. The only problem you may run into it that the 507 does utilize a 1-1/2 inch discharge. If you are installing this to pipe directly into your main discharge, you would be best served to increase the discharge to 1-1/2 inch. This would help handle the extra load should your 507 activate to assist your primary pump in the event it cannot keep up with the incoming water.

I need a new battery charger. The amber light never turns green and I just had a new battery installed (the serviceman said it could be the charger, not the battery. The battery never stops 'buzzing'). I have a Basement Sentry I Model 507 10 amp, 1/2 volt. I would like to purchase a new one - can I buy it through you and if so, how much is it. If not through you, do you know where I can get it? The pump is o.k.; it's just the charger that I need.
Thank you.

I am just looking into my first back up system
and need to confirm an assumption that the back up system triggers automatically by its own float. so that when the power goes out if I am not home the system will kick in automatically.

Answer
Yes, that is correct. As long as the battery is fully charged and the system is installed and operating correctly, the battery backup pump will activate seperately from your primary pump. Please note that all manufactures recommend that primary and battery backup systems as well as your basin be inpsected at a minimum of every 3 months to insure that it is operating correctly and that there is no debris in the basin that could potentially impede the operation of either pump.

Why do you need two seperate outlets for the Zoeller model 507
Tom Donahue

December 22, 2011
Answer
The manufacturer always recommend a seperate circuit for the primary and battery backup systems for safety and to insure that the circuit breaker will not trip due to the possibility of both pumps cycling at the same time and when you may need it the most.

My Zoeller Model 507 was installed at a ∼ 45˚ angle above the water line of my sump system. I understand it being above the water line as it is a backup, but being on an angle puzzles me as it seems that it will not pump efficiently when that emergency situation arises. Should it be installed in a more upright configuration?

Per the installation instructions for this pump, "Pump must be glued into tee fitting on a 30° angle to avoid air locking.
Perhaps it just seems like a 45 degree angle?

We know nothing on the operation of sump pumps. I would very much like to get a battery backup to our existing pump but we have no owners manual or anything on the one installed in the house we just moved into. Would a licensed plummer be the person to work with or an electrician. We are very interested once we know the specs on purchasing a battery backup from Zoeller. It has fantasic reviews.

Answer
A licensed plumber would be the professional to contact for help in getting your sump system installed. However, you can find information on our website at my How-To Library. This link offers a wealth of information on sump pumps and sump systems to help you understand what type of system you may need and how they work. We carry many of the major brand pumps, some of which can only be purchased or obtained through contractors at very reasonable prices.

Hi Jim
I Had a house built in 2006. There is a zoeller sump pump installed in basement. Can I purchase just the battery back-up system for my existing pump?
Josh Nobile
from Pennsylvania
April 28, 2011
Answer
You most certainly can and the Zoeller Model 507 may be what you need, however, it is best to size it according to your needs and what you think will pump a sufficient amount of water during those times when you may loose power. If your area is prone to heavy rains and flooding in your homes, you may want to think about stepping up to the Model 510 which will pump 1320 GPH at 10 feet or the Basement Watchdog .Special which will pump 1730 GPH at 10 feet. All excellent systems and compatible with your current pump.

I have this in the tandem setup with the M53 pump. 2 questions:
1) The backup pump always has a little water dripping out of it, not much at all, but a constant little drip. Is that normal?
2) The charger (mounted to the wall) emits a continual buzzing noise. Not super loud, but pretty noticeable when close to the basin. Is this normal?
Rick

March 02, 2011
Answer
It's possible there's water in the discharge pipe that's leaking through your backup since, as described in the installation manual, the check valve should be located just below the PVC "T" that the backup is mounted to.
Regarding the constant buzzing from the charger, if it's the alarm, it usually indicates a problem with the battery. Per the instruction manual, I would suggest:
(a) Push alarm reset (max. 3 times). If condition persists,
replace battery.
(b) To silence alarm if alarm will not reset, unplug the charger
from 115V wall outlet, then disconnect the black lead from
charger on negative (-) battery post. Check battery. Replace
if necessary. Reconnect and refer to Installation (step 14).
If it is not the alarm sounding, I would suggest contacting Zoeller Tech Support at (800) 928-7867.
