Can this run off the 20lb tanks that we use for BBQ? I see that you say it can run off any size tank in a previous question but I am not sure that it can connect right to the BBQ tanks. I am looking for a portable generator that could run even just our heating system. My electrician had shown me the generac models, but I am not sure if that is safe with my Quietside burner. I looked throughout that manual but I don't see anything about THD in it. Last year when my area lost power we couldn't even buy gas for our cars so I was trying to find another alternative.

Answer
These units "cannot" be used with a 5 gallon (20#) propane tank.

Here are the tank requirements from the owner's manual which are based on temperature (Found on Page 7)...Owner's Manual Link Below....

HPS9000VE

60 Deg. F - 70 gal.
30 Deg. F - 80 gal.
0 Deg. F - 200 gal.
-20 Deg. F - 7000 gal.

Winco HPS9000VE......I currently have a Weber natural gas barbeque being fed by 50 feet of 3/4" CSST Flexible Tubing. If I disconnect the barbeque and connect this generator will it receive enough pressure to operate properly?

Answer
Page 6 of the owner's manual, available on our site under the specs tab has the following chart....

Size of pipe required for generators operating on natural gas/
LP gas.

-Length of Fuel Line* Fuel Line Size
-Less than 25 feet 3/4 inch black pipe
-25 to 100 feet 1 inch black pipe
-over 100 feet not recommended**

*allow an additional 3 feet for each standard elbow. Do not
use ‘street ells’ (restrictive)

** Consult factory for fuel runs over 100 feet.

The manual also lists specific requirements for fuel regulation and the use of fuel regulators.

We recommend consulting the owner's manual and a certified plumber for proper installation.

Answer
Per page 3 of the owner's manual you would Derate 10% for LP and 20% for NG.

This is true on all Winco Tri-Fuel models.

Answer
Correct fuel pressure cannot be stressed enough. The most common cause or inoperative systems is an inadequate or incorrect fuel pressure.

Power and performance of the engine is in direct relation to the correctness of the fuel system.

There are several fuel delivery systems mentioned in the owner's manual and should be referred to when connecting system.

Whichever fuel delivery system or type of vapor fuel used, the fuel pressure at the demand regulator installed on the engine generator must be between 4 and 6 oz. (7-11 inches of water column). Any lower pressure and the unit will starve for fuel under load. Any higher and the unit will ‘flood’ when attempting to start.

There is some very important LP tank sizing requirements in the owner's manual which needs to be reviewed.

I'm needing a home back up generator that I can also use for hunting camp. Can either the 5500 watt or the 8000 watt model be run of off 100lb and 20lb tanks? What is the LP consumption of both at half and full load?

Winco only lists the fuel consumption at full load. Please see link below to review the spec sheet which covers all their Tri-Fuel models.
