Product QuestionsAnswered by Jared, the Generator Expert
What natural gas pressure is required to run the unit?
Do you offer a hose line kit if the generator is operating on NG?
Mike B.
from New York
August 26, 2018
Answer
The required fuel pressure to run the unit on natural gas is 4-6 oz of pressure (7-11 inches of water column). You can find the details of these specifications for this generator and all the other generators on our site, by clicking on the "Manuals" tab on any product page. The unit does not come with a flexible fuel line, but your installer can easily provide this along with the appropriate regulator.

How many Amps will this generator output on the largest plug? I have seen pictures of this unit with the largest being a 45 Amp plug and others with a 60 Amp plug. Considering there is not a 60Amp breaker, I am wondering if the 60 Amp plug is actually delivering 60 Amps. Thanks

Answer
the generator has a 60-amp outlet but the unit itself is only rated at 45-amps. I do not know the reasoning behind using the 60-amp outlet and would think they do this since their other units use the same outlet.

Does it have an idle down switch?

Answer
Thanks for your inquiry.
The Winco HPS12000HE does not have an Idle Control. Below is a link to the Owner's Manual which will cover the features of the generator.
Wanting to use this on a Food Truck. Would I be able to plumb it to my propane tank? It would be a 100lb tank. I could install 2 if needed. There will also be other pieces of equipment connected to the propane tanks.

Answer
This unit requires the following tank sizes based on ambient temperatures in your area.....
Model: HPS12000HE
Temp
60 deg f. - 150 gal
30 deg f. - 250 gal
0 deg f. - 500 gal
-20 deg f. - 1000 gal
The tank sizing chart is available in the owner's manual on page 7....
I have 500 gallon LP tank, can I hook this unit to the vapor side of tank? The tank is always at least half full & our temperature range is 0-118 deg f.

Answer
A 500 Gallon tank would be great with this unit...Here is the tank requirements per the owner's manual...
Temp:
60 deg f./30 deg f./0 deg f./-20 deg f.
HPS12000HE:
150 gal/ 250 gal/ 500 gal/ 1000 gal.
Your 500 Gallon tank fits right in the 0 deg f. range.

Trying to determine which transfer switch to buy for the Winco HPS 12000HE generator. Our circuit breakers are located in two boxes each rated at 200 amps, but we have more than twice the capacity we need. What used to be a shop is now just a garage/workshop and needs only a light and garage door opener. We have a heat pump, well pump, refrigerator/freezer, freezer, new water heater, and some lights to be used during a black out. I surely don't need 400 amp service then. Do I have to buy a transfer switch for 400 amps just because the capacity of my circuit breakers is that much? Also, do you sell enclosures for this generator?
Rich
from Washington
June 30, 2012
Answer
Unfortunately with a 400A service you would have to have all the emergency circuits moved into one 200A panel and have the generator power that panel only with the following switch. You would need to manage the circuits as the generators maximum capacity output will not be enough to power the entire panel.
Highly unlikely that this generator or any portable generator will be sufficient enough to handle your heat pump system due to the tremendous amount of starting current they require because of the system pumps.
At this time we do not offer any enclosures for portable generators but we are looking into it and may have something in the near future.
Please keep in mind that a certified electrician should be consulted for proper generator sizing and switch installation.

Will this generator (HPS12000HE) deliver full rated power while operating on Propane?

What is the LP gas line in pressure required to run this generator.
Joseph Smith
from New York
January 21, 2012
Answer
Correct fuel pressure cannot be stressed enough. The most common cause or inoperative systems is an inadequate or incorrect fuel pressure.
Power and performance of the engine is in direct relation to the correctness of the fuel system.
There are several fuel delivery systems mentioned in the owner's manual and should be referred to when connecting system.
Whichever fuel delivery system or type of vapor fuel used, the fuel pressure at the demand regulator installed on the engine generator must be between 4 and 6 oz. (7-11 inches of water column). Any lower pressure and the unit will starve for fuel under load. Any higher and the unit will ‘flood’ when attempting to start.
There is some very important LP tank sizing requirements in the owner's manual which needs to be reviewed.
