Q: how long can the power cord be for a 16" worx and how big a tree will a 14" worx cut

by Linda from Massachusetts on November 01, 2011

A: The extension cable used to reach the AC power source must be specifically marked as suitable for outdoor use, the W-A marking must be visible on the cable, and it must be heavy enough to carry the current the full length of the cable.

If these conditions are not observed, loss of power and overheating may damage the cable and the saw.

For this 16" saw, at least a 14 gauge W-A extension cord, up to 50 feet long is recommended. A cord longer than 50 feet is not recommended.

A 14" saw is ideal for trimming limbs and branches. If you want to take on felling trees, please read through the advice found in the Owner's Manual. You can download a copy by clicking on the link on the right side of our Specs page.

The Owner's Manual will also list recommended extension cord gauges and lengths for this saw.
by Dale, Product Expert

Q: Is there a limit to how many or how long of an extention cord I can use? Some reviews sound like you are limited to a 100 ft cord.
by Joyce Fischer from Iowa on June 02, 2011

A: Once you go over a certain amount of footage, the power is decreased and the gauge of the extension cord need to be more. There could be stress put on the motor if not porperly powered.

Great Saw For Price
I have fought with gas chain saws for years & thought electric ones were too wimpy.

I had a friend let me try this saw, & I was amazed at how easy it cut 12' to 14' logs. So I bought one and have not been disappointed, except for one thing! I cannot find any replacement bar & chains.

I always like to have replacements handy, but will keep looking. This site "Chain Saws Direct" doesn't seem to carry them either.

CSD RESPONDS: You can always find them at... more

Time Saver
I started cutting down eight 50 foot-plus trees. I have a gasoline chain saw also. I found the electric one is much faster and no need to keep pulling a rope to start it.

I ended up saving over 2 hours per tree as I cut them into fireplace-sized logs.

The Worx chain saw is easy to clean and the self-adjusting chain is great. I am very satisfied with this chainsaw.

Great Saw
A 40 foot oak limb landed on and knocked over my propane tank. It was an emergency situation to get this 24"+ max diameter limb cut up and moved.

After some quick research bought the 16" WORX. The only other chain saw I had ever used was a 14" Poulan and knew I didn't want that!

The WORX is great. I had that limb cut up in about a half hour. The documentation and instruction are excellent. The gripper teeth are a great safety help.

Now I have a wood burning stove.... more

Still Early
Just used my new Worx 16 inch electric chain saw for the first time.

Very easy to use and was very surprised with the cutting power of the saw. Had my girlfriend and the girl next door cutting limbs and branches in no time.

Still early but so far more then satisfied.

I just recently started chainsaw carving, and at first I was using old 36cc Craftsman. After 10 years it quit on me I did a lot of research before I bought this saw.

BAM! Right out of the box it worked like a champ. The only draw back is it is not gas; and I wish the cord locked together in some fashion.

On the plus side, there's no stopping for gassing up; only oiling- and no fumes.

I've only had it kick on me once, and it has so much power I have yet to bind it up. I would cut... more

Switched And Going Back
I got a Worx and the torque really does the job. Then someone stole it from my potting shed. I saw a cheep gas saw so I used it for two days and it can't keep up with my Worx and the fumes are giving me a headache, So, I'll use the gas for remote areas but I'm getting another Worx. I have just over 1/2 acre and I have no trouble with cords. The tension adjustment is great. Just some oil in the reservoir you never need any tools.

Nice Product, My Worx Electric Chain Saw
I was given this chain saw for my birthday 2 weeks ago per my request and I love it. It is lightweight enough to handle for a long period of time.

Very creative simple way to adjust the chain tension, see the big black round piece on the side. That is your adjustment handle. Stays in place with No tools needed . Good power.

It has been given a workout building a stable and manger for my church. Everyone has been impressed by it. Would recommend it to anyone wanting something with... more

Works Great Until Brushes Wear Out
Saw works great until brushes wear out and the motor won't run. It could be fixed in a few minutes, but the Factory won't furnish replacement brushes, and you can't find them anywhere else!!! Factory has a despicable attitude!!! I do not recommend any Worx electric motor with brushes.

Was Ok At First!
The Worx saw cut fine at first. But I wanted to get a back up bar and chain. Took me forever to find one. Even after emailing the mfg. After repeated bugging of the major hardware store I bought it from, after several weeks, they finally stocked some.

After cutting several tree limbs, I noticed it wasn't cutting anymore. I tried tightening the chain with no effect. Finally, I tried to replace the chain. The tightening knob broke off, so basically it's now worthless.

I also had an... more

Worx Don't Work
I would give this a 0 but there isn't one. I got this saw as a gift 1-1/2 years ago and had not used it at home as I have a gas saw. So I decided to take it to the lake place for trimming and cutting fire wood. Well I fired it up as per instructions and it cut like a bandit for about 45 seconds then started to slow. A few seconds later, it started smoking and the motor went up in flames. I took the chain off for my gas saw and threw the rest away. My last electric saw was a Remington and... more
