Save your time, buy something else

Just returned 2nd troy bilt. The nicest thing about this product is the ability to externally start it. The worst thing is while it's running it will die on you and never start again. Regardless of what you do to it. 2nd machine in 3 1/2 months, it is simply an inferior product.

I have done everything known to man to make this product work from using ethanol free gas to carburetor adjustments. This product when you pull the start cord does not catch completely and will suddenly free wheel giving every muscle in your arm a jolt. It will not idle its all or nothing. The line feeder will not feed line so you have to stop the machine to feed line. As you can see I am totally frustrated with this product. I have used this product less than 40 hours, the paint is not burned off of the muffler yet.

I purchased my Troy-Bilt trimmer because I have heard they have a good reputation. Well that's was in the past. My experience has been terrible & expensive to say the least. Little power but the biggest problem was after little use the upper shaft cable broke on the inside. Ordered parts & repaired myself. It ran good for a little while that is until the lower shaft cable broke just the same. It looks as if the lower gears in the head were so worn after such little use that it must have caused the problem. I have wasted enough time & money on this piece of crap. I will go buy a Stihl or Husky this time. I have wasted enough time & money on this Troy-Bilt that I could have bought a better quality trimmer to begin with. Don't chance buying one!!!!!!

I actually purchased this product used from a pawn shop and I love it. It has enough power to get the job done. I have to mention though my yard is only 7,500 sq feet. I only trim the side of my home and against my fence. From reading other reviews one would assume it's a bad product. I'm that guy who's yard looks 10 times better than your yard and it works perfect for me, just my 2 cents.

I am considering returning the Troy Bilt do to the constant stopping to clear the line as it lacks power. Expected more power, weeds that are 1 foot or more get wrapped over the top of the spool. Although if I was just doing light edging no problems. Lack of POWER and I go through gas to quickly. Not too happy; did any of the engineers do a test drive, an electric weed wacker does just as good. Less $$ for gas! A score of 1-5, I give it a 2 and the engineers an (F). I know they just tested to see if it started???

I don't complain and rip on products that do as they should. Trimmers need to be light weight, less stop to fix a problem and burn a hole in your pocket with gas.

Troy Bilt Trimmer

It's a BAD piece of gear. Wouldn't start out of the box. Called tech... wait...wait...wait..he had the answer right off the bat "Bad gas" how he knew this over the phone I don't know. Their rep here in Spokane charged me $63 to fix this new machine. Now it finally runs for 2 minutes until the string wraps around the shaft and kills the run. It's JUNK

Needs work right outta the box!

After inspecting the trimmer head, I noticed the 6 T25 torx screws where the head & shaft come together. I removed these screws & noticed there were very little grease in there for those 4 bearings & the 2 gears! And no way to stop water getting in there when cutting the wet weeds!! So I packed it with high temp grease and ran a bead of high temp silicone around the mating surfaces. This should be done at the factory! And anyone who buys this should do it and if you have one do it now! Those bearings and gears will not last!! Other than that, just keep a close eye on the oil level, mine goes go through it!! And keep the valves adjusted, I check mine twice a season with always an adjustment!! This will help with the hot start problems everyone seems to have!

Don't waste your money

After owning this trimmer for four months and about 3 hours of usage, the engine seized. Troy-Built sent me to an authorized dealer near my home for repair. The repair shop said the engine seized because It didn't have enough oil in it. When I told them It had only been used a few times and didn't appear to leak or burn oil, they said maybe I didn't hold it correctly as I used it. Troy-Built refused to repair or replace and claimed the damage was my fault.

I bought this piece of garbage, and after about 4 hours of use, one of the clutch dogs broke. When I contacted customer service, I was told they would not send me a new clutch, and I had to take it to an authorized repair shop for service. The closet shop was in Eagle River, Alaska, which is about 200 miles from where I live. When I got to Eagle River Small Engine Repair, the owner, John told me he did not work on string trimmers, and refused to even look at it. When I got back home, I called customer service again, and Al, the idiot I spoke to this time told me I needed to take it to Wasilla, which is 30 miles past Eagle River.
I would recommend another brand that actually honors their warranty, and backs their product. Do not buy this piece of trash. In fact, do not buy anything TROY-BILT.
