Troy-Bilt HORSE Reviews & Ratings

Fluffy Dirt
By Stan T.

Review Posted 06/12/2020
The Troy-Bilt Horse is one great tiller. It's plenty wide for the rows and has multiple levels of depth. It can be used with very little guidance. Best tiller I have ever had.

Garden Is In

I had grown up with a Troy-Bilt tiller my father owned, and my older brother still uses it 50 years later. This one has improvements in design, which seems to make it easier to use. So far, it meets my expectations. My only complaint is the nuts for the right side tines were not there, and the bolts fell out on the ground almost immediately. I re-inserted the bolts and added nuts. I suspect the assembler got interrupted, and the inspector wasn't careful before it was packed to go.

20" Troy-Bilt Horse Tiller 306cc (10HP)
By Mike T.

Review Posted 04/25/2019
This tiller is great. I was using a smaller version of the same thing for about 5 years. Forward tine is the only way to go for a larger garden. I was able to till 5000 sq.ft. in about an hour, but i wasn't starting with grass, just last year's field. Also, i was on the deepest setting from the start.
My only complaint is the forward reverse lever. It is difficult to operate and the bar is already starting to bend. I leave it in forward and use the fast slow neutral lever to control.

I like the tiller. Works well after several adjustments. I wish the people who assembled it would spend a little more time getting it adjusted!

Needs Some Improvement
By David J.

What I found was the ease of starting which was a surprise. Power of the unit is what one would expect from a Troy-Bilt Tiller. What I found different is the pull for starting. If you are left handed it would be a dream but most individuals are right handed. Personally I do not care for it. The other is engaging and disengaging. This needs major improvement mainly when one disengages the power to tires and tangs. Extremely difficult to disengage already bending the contoured rod for engaging and disengaging. I put grease across the surface that roller bearing rides which helps some. Maybe Troy-Bilt needs to address this issue. Like review old designs that was on the ole Trojan Horse models from the late 60's and early 70's. This is more user friendly for it is a bar with a rod that you can pull towards you for disengaging. My old Trojan Horse finally died and can no longer get parts. I estimate that unit was 40 plus years old for I did purchase used.

One Big Problem With Tiller Instructions
By Walter W.
Seattle, Washington
Purchased 06/05/2017 |
Review Posted 07/01/2017
I had one problem that would be so easy for the company to fix, but has not been done. There instruction book that comes with the tiller is printed in such poor quality that one can not see the actual pictures or tell what there text is trying to explain. At the end I just had to figure it out by the odd parts that I had and the bolts that were in the bag. There tiller is great there booklet quality is very very poor.
