The Next Level in Living & Working From Home
Power Equipment Direct Promotes “Smart, Safe, and Clean” Homes in New Initiative
Power Equipment Direct is launching an educational campaign aimed at improving the lives of homeowners spending increased amounts of time indoors since the pandemic.
The "Smart, Safe, and Clean Home" program offers solutions designed to improve indoor living. “With most Americans now working from home, the need for security, connectivity, indoor air quality, and water treatment has never been greater,” explains Phillipe Covington, director, merchandising (HVAC) at Power Equipment Direct. “We are offering homeowners the resources and products they need for a happy, healthy home.”
The initiative comes amidst some eye-opening statistics:
- According to a Pew Research Poll, 71% of Americans were working from home in December 2020. The U.S. Census Bureau reported that 65% of households with children used online learning.
- The U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) reported more than 1.2 million fires in 2019 that resulted in 3,704 deaths nationwide.
- Concentrations of indoor air pollutants are 2-5 times higher than outdoor concentrations.
- Roughly 50,000 people visit emergency rooms due to accidental carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning each year.
- In a test by Consumer Reports, 118 out of 120 homes had high levels of arsenic in their tap water.
The initiative focuses on three key areas: Home automation and security, indoor air quality, and water quality. From security cameras and carbon monoxide detectors to emergency backup generators and smart thermostats, there are many modern ways to make home life safer and more convenient. “Safety, not only from intruders, but also from power outages, fires, carbon monoxide leaks and more becomes paramount the more time you spend at home,” explains Covington. “Adding smart technology to the mix makes protecting yourself and your family simple and fun.” Improving indoor air quality involves not only cleaning the air but conditioning it to be comfortable. “People can go a long way in raising their home’s air quality merely by changing their furnace filter regularly,” says Covington. “Besides that, proper ventilation, humidity, and even air purification can make your home a comfortable, healthy place to reside.” eComfort reminds homeowners to check their tap water quality whether they get municipal or ground water. “There are a whole host of contaminants that can be in your water, even after it has been treated,” warns Covington. “We recommend testing your tap water and getting a home water purifier if you find high levels of harmful contaminants.” The
