Broke During Break-In Period
By Dave T.
New York
Review Posted 06/28/2022

Pad break came off during the mow at the 2 hour mark of the 5 hour break-in period. Saw smoke and followed shut down procedures. Found that the pad break on the right hand side as seen from the rear had come off and the belt was broken. There was no thread lock used on any bolt and only a locking wheel nut on the bolt.

Good & Bad

I use this in my lawn care business. I have had 5 of them over the past 20 years. The mower itself is great, but the hitch assembly is junk. I should know using it on my 40 lawn accounts. I challenge Swisher to find a buyer who uses this model of tow behind more than I have. I have a local fabrication company build me a hitch that is of heavy gauge steel and reinforce the place of attachment.

Ok
By Greg H.
Beloit, Kansas
Purchased 03/30/2020 |
Review Posted 06/12/2020
This mower did ok, but it tends to leave a strip in tall tougher grass and the relief from all that grass. It wasn't very good, as it tends to ball up under the deck and drag the mower down. The trail mower is ok, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a finish mower.

Manufacturer Response
We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with your machine. When cutting high or dense grass areas go slowly. Some areas may need to be mowed twice. The second cut should be at 90 degrees to the first, if possible. When mowing thick or high grass, raise rear of deck to ½” to ¾” above front of the deck. It is recommended to cut area twice. The first at a higher setting and the second at the desired lawn height. To create a manicured lawn, never cut more than 1/3 of the grass height in one cutting. If you need additional assistance, please contact us at 800.222.8183.

I have no issues with the product or packaging, except for the very small gas tank. I was informed that the delivery would have to be scheduled. Yet, it just showed up without informing me. I was not there and had to compensate someone for their time to accept the delivery in my place.

Get an extra set of pawl's for the pull cord as mine only lasted 4 pull's and no the blades were not engaged so I called mower depot, talked to a person only to be told I would have to take it to warranty station.Ordered on amazon so I could finish mowing.Got it going only to have the belt shred after only around 3 hour's of use. Also if your grass is over 4-6 inches this is not what you want.

Expert Response
Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback, and we are sorry to hear that you have experienced issues with the recoil start mechanism and belt.
Though we are relieved to hear that you were able to address the starting issue by replacing the prawl's yourself, should you experience any additional issues with the recoil start mechanism, we encourage you to reach out to the manufacturer directly. Seeing as you appear to be mechanically inclined, they will likely be able to provide you the replacement components free of cost granted that they are defective.
As for the belt, Swisher recommends that the operator allows the blades to rotate and engine to idle for at least five minutes before operation, please keep this in mind after installing your replacement belt. We also suggest that you check to make certain that the pulley is on properly and that the idler pulleys and spindles are moving freely as the bearings are known to freeze or bind due to excess debris buildup. Lastly, please look over the Idler bushing (Part #6037 Page 16 Owner's Manual) as misconfiguration may lead to belt misalignment.
One other important practice to note is proper storage of the mower. Swisher recommends that you store the mower with the blades disengaged to prevent the belts from being permanently stretched.
We hope these suggestions help you get to the bottom of whatever is causing these belt issues. If you conclude that there is a manufacturer defect with this unit, you can always have it checked out at a professional service center. We are here to provide additional guidance if you need it, so please feel free to reach out anytime.
