If I was to water a garden with this pump, would the pressure of the hose turning on and off be bad for the pump?
Chris

Answer
Yes it would! Cutting off the flow on the discharge or "Deadheading the pump" of any submersible pump like this would cause extreme backpressure, resulting in either a hose/pipe blowing out or the pump exploding. Neither of which would be a good thing in addition to being potentially very dangerous for anyone near this. The same is true for non-submersible pumps UNLESS the pump is an on-demand style pump or it's connected to a pressure switch and pressure tank.

Jim: I live in CA and, as you probably know, we have a severe drought. In an effort to save water, I place a bucket under the shower when I turn it on to catch the cold water. Once it turns warm, I remove the bucket and take my shower, At a later tilme, i fill empty milk containers with the water in the bucket and use it to water our plants. The bathroom is on the second floor and, needless to say, it is a hassle collecting the water and carrying it downstairs. What I want to do is have a pump I can turn on that will move the water from my bucket, out the bathroom window, to a collection barrel at ground level. I assume a submersible, utility bpump is my best choice? Does the pump need to fit in the bucket or could I have it outside the shower stall? Any advise you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
As long as you are not exceeding the rated head on the pump, there is no reason that the submersible pump would not do the job for you. I would NOT however, suggest standing in that bucket while the pump is operating.

CAN THIS PUMP BE USED FOR POOLS
SA'KAI
from Texas
June 30, 2016
Answer
Sa'kai,
Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. I would NOT recommend using the pump in an application that includes chlorine. In fact, I do not currently offer many pumps that would handle this application. You might check with your local pool supplier for further assistance.
