Very Nice But...

I really like the Scotts 20" Classic Mower, however, one small complaint would be that listings should state whether or not the bagger is included.

Blue Grass Haircut
By Alan B.

Review Posted 08/24/2022
I purchased the mower for 900 sqft of newly sodded bluegrass. Bluegrass is delicate and tricky…I keep it tall in the New Mexico summer and the reel Scott mower handles it well. Yes, I have to go over some areas twice…but thick, tall blue grass will require that of any mower. The Scott is light enough to easily handle but powerful and sharp enough to get the job done.

Maybe As Good As It Gets

I've been using various old push reel mowers for thirty years.
This is the first one I've bought new. It is super lightweight compared to others or any type of mower. Some parts are plastic so I'm extra careful and hope they hold up for a long time. The extra width is helpful but as with any push reel, I have to overlap the cuts. The height adjustment is very easy and the range is outstanding. Most other push reels cut way too short. A motorized rotary mower sucks the grass upwards into its blades. If your grass is lying on its side, a push reel just passes over it without cutting. Also, if growth sends up some shoots here and there, a push reel won't cut them if they're too tall. These are little annoyances I put up with because I really don't want any motorized mowers available, which are way too expensive anyway.

Great Mower For Small, Level Yards
By Zachary T.

Review Posted 06/23/2022
The mower has performed well overall. Just need to make sure that you regularly mow (every week or so), because if lawn/weeds get too high, the mower just pushes them down and won't cut them. I have some scattered uneven spots in my yard which makes the mower perform less efficiently since the wheels end up spinning differently in those spots. Great buy overall and love not having to buy gas or have loud engine going.

I have had them all, from ancient, heavy iron wheeled beasts to a modern, expensive Fiskars.
For the money, this one beats them hands down. Lightweight, wide cutting path, easy height adjustment, a comfortable handle and a bargain to boot. The handle assembly is a little twisty but that's a minor issue. The unit came out of the box with the axles set on the highest of the three cutting ranges. The lowest setting of which was too high for my lawn. The instructions for changing the axle settings were clear and I set them to the middle range and I am happy. Our lawn is no suburban sod farm look-a-like. More like a rural mix of plantain, dandelions, wild thyme, and a variety of nameless grasses and weeds. It's neither flat nor square, resembling a contoured map of the worst gerrymandered congressional district you can think of. This mower handles it easy. A first cut in whatever pattern I fancy and then a quick crosshatch over that at the same height setting makes it look like a carpet. My neighbors are amazed that it looks so good and they never hear a sound.
I love the quiet, purposeful exercise. Not to mention the smell of fresh-cut grass instead of exhaust fumes. No oil changing and tugging on starter cords either. And it takes up so little room in the shed.

I tried this for the first time yesterday. I was really impressed with how easy it was to push. I mowed my backyard just as fast with this reel mower as my gas powered push mower. It makes a nice clean cut that looks great.
I had two problems. First I realized that you have to lap the cuts by several inches to avoid leaving a mo-hawk ridge of tall grass between rows. Second, the grass does not get chopped up only sheared off, so you have to cut the grass in small increments to keep the grass clippings short. If your cutting is delayed for some reason you may need to make 2 passes at different heights to prevent really long blades of grass. I have not verified that this will work but it sounds reasonable.

It cuts well. Not as consistent or clean as a gas mower, but handsome and neat when finished. Light and easy to move about without feeling flimsy. Easy to assemble. Slightly louder and stiffer than I would like, I may need to lubricate it.

I like the mower but it's giving me problems

I'm happy with my decision to get a reel mower and I do like the way this particular mower works but after the second use the left rear wheel and height adjuster fell off. Scott's sent me replacement parts quickly but one of the replacement parts was defective.

Horrible

Won't cut grass low enough in this area so even on the lowest setting the grass goes to seed 2 days later. But the worst part is the grass catcher, I have to stop and clear it every 5 feet.
