Harsh winter storms, icy patches on your steep drive and artic temperatures are no match for the Ariens Platinum Track 28 SHO (28") 369cc Two-Stage Snow Blower.

You will be skating across your drive with the maneuverability and improved traction that the 5.5” Wide Directional Snow Track and Auto-Turn Steering Technology provides. With a powerful 369cc Ariens engine and 120-Volt electric start, clearing snow falls up to 16” deep couldn’t be easier.
With Ariens patented 14” 3-blade... more

Ariens... My $2,000 Mistake! (sent To Expert)
Had about 8" of snow in the past 24-36 hours... waited for it to end and got the snow blower out this evening.

I am very disappointed with this new machine so my rant will come across as quite cynical.

The auto-steer is a joke. Any slight infraction on the ground (such as a compacted clump of snow from a car driving over and packing down) will kick the snowblower to turn towards the resistance side presented by the snow clump... this thing will not track straight and takes some... more
Pros: Very little
Cons: Unreliable, Difficult To Use, Poor performance

Frank,
Thank you for taking the time to review your Ariens snow blower. The concerns that were brought to our attention is not a common issue on the Ariens two-stage track models. We did reach out to Ariens and were able to gain some insight on some possible remedies to the issues you are experiencing.

You can use the snow blower in two positions.

1. Dig In
2. Float

The “dig in” position will likely give more traction, for a straight away, because you lose turn-ability. But then again if you are using the “dig in” position on a packed snow surface, then the scraper bar is likely digging in to the packed snow and causing the tracks to slip and ‘grind’ down the snow. The lurching forward, is what will happen when the scraper breaks free of the packed snow, giving the unit traction again, until it comes back down and the scraper digs into the packed snow again (all in a matter of a few seconds). If you are constantly dealing with tire tracks or (packed snow) then you will need to use the machine in the “float” position. Ariens is aware of the headlight design, but keep in mind that this light is not meant to see directly in front of the auger, mainly because the operator also cannot see directly in front of the auger. The headlights main job is to give the operator a field of view at night. It also works as a safety device so vehicles can see you no matter what direction you are facing.

Thank you

Brand Rep
Frank,
Thank you for your feedback on your Ariens Platinum Track 28" snow blower. We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the performance of your machine and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
In addition to the information provided by the product expert, we may also suggest you consider Non-Abrasive Composite Skid Shoes for your unit. By installing these skid shoes on your machine, it may reduce the drag from the bucket while the unit is set in its normal operation position. This reduced drag can potentially help the unit glide past the resistance you have experienced from the compacted snow.
If you are still having issues with your unit and feel that it is not operating properly, we would suggest you contact your local service dealer. Your service dealer will be able to inspect, diagnose and if needed, repair any defect that may be present on the machine.
Thank you.

Moves A Ton Of Snow But Hard To Maneuver
Compared to my old 24" compact, this thing moves snow with more power and greater ease. I wonder how much of that is engine size (it does seem to be harder to lug, though I don't push it because I don't like replacing shear bolts) and how much is the improved chute controls. For example, my old snowblower had one of the worm gear horizontal remotes (turn, turn, turn, turn, turn...), and no vertical remote.

Traction is also vastly improved in this model over my old one, owing to tracks... more

Ariens Platinum Track 28 Sho Model 921052
Simple question: Is there a Neutral? The unit is 300lbs. I am able bodied, yet cannot figure how to move this within the garage without wrestling, dragging, and pushing the unit. I'm sure this added pressure will not help when it comes to a warranty repair. Nowhere in the Operators Manual does it address Neutral. Can someone please provide a reasonable answer to this simple question. If the only way to move this unit is to actually have it running, this should be stated clearly somewhere. This... more

Michael,
Sometimes engaging the steering levers while the machine is off will allow you to freely move your blower. Because this machine has Auto Turn Technology, I am uncertain as to if this machine will allow you to exercise a neutral gear when not running. Calling Ariens directly at (920)-756-4688 may be your best bet. We are happy to hear that you are pleased with your new purchase and look forward to doing business with you again. Thank You.

Waiting For The Chance
August 2017 - Northern New Jersey. After 3/4 hr assembly (assembly instructions require your mechanical experience - assembly times may vary), adding fuel (oil was present in the unit out of the box) the unit started on the first electric start crank. A cable adjustment was needed for a smooth chute rotation. Chute was locking in position and would not unlick with handle mechanism. Simple nut adjustment on cable (forward/rear nut) under plastic hood (discharge chute gear cover) that covers the... more

Tank
I bought this snow blower last year after looking at a lot of snow blowers. It came on a tractor trailer and beware it is curb delivery. The driver did help get it up my 150 foot driveway. A buddy and I set it up in about 30 minutes. It is very heavy duty and easy to use.

It has a lot of good features and the controls are right at your finger tips. We had several snows last year and this machine ate through the snow like a tank. I cleared 2 foot snow drifts with ease. My driveway is... more

Solid Machine
Used in 30" of compacted snow in UT mountains. Plenty of power, good throwing distance. The deep compacted snow above the auger obviously did not feed in readily. That however is not the fault of the machine, it is simply not big enough for the job. 30" of loose snow are absolutely no issue.

The tracks work well on steep inclined gravel driveway. All around a good machine. The only nit-picking complaint is that the sticker for the throttle ring is already peeling off the... more

Solid Machine
We purchased the Platinum Track 28 SHO new in November 2016 and have had occasion to use it twice. Setup was fairly straightforward although it did take some use and further tweaking to seat all the cables and adjust spring tensions just right. I would budget about an hour for a complete setup and adjustment. Consult the yearly maintenance section for some additional adjustment not covered in the initial setup instructions.

But once its dialed in this thing can chew through the snow and... more

As Good, At Times Better Than Honda 928
The bigger barrel and faster moving second stage moves the sierra concrete much better. Most of the time I could not get through the driveway built-up from the street clearing fellow, now I can. Without problems.

difficult to move without engine on. Not a problem for me. Mine has a parking place inside the garage.

No cons!!!

Come On Snow: Design Flaw, Ariens Proposes A Fix
Okay, so you may have seen the review about my Ariens Plat Track 28 quitting on downhill slopes. I dragged it to a service center, where they determined that the outlet on the fuel tank is in the back bottom corner, so that if there is a half tank or less of gas and the machine is tilted nose down, the gas no longer reaches the outlet and it dies.

Seems like a major design flaw for a model that's supposed to be good for slopes. The service center contacted Ariens, who provided a stock... more

Ariens Snowblower Review
The Ariens 28 inch Platinum SHO snowblower came shipped in heavy duty packaging. Instructions to complete setup were adequate. The snowblower arrived with slight paint damage to the auger housing. Had to buy touch up paint to fix it. Have not had a chance to use it yet. It looks good.

Cons: Heavy
