Can a pressure controlled switch (to go with tank) be installed directly on the pump?
Brad A.
from Alabama
February 14, 2018
Answer
Most any centrifugal pump, which the RLSP-200 is, can be connected to a pressure tank and pressure switch. This would also be possible for a shallow well, convertible jet, deep well or sprinkler pump. The tank is typically sized based on a minimum 3 times your GPM requirements and will allow the water needed by you, to be drawn off the tank. When the pressure in the tank gets low due to low water in that tank, it activates the pump to fill the tank. The larger the tank, the less your pump will operate. The less your pump operates, the longer it should last you. You would need to contact the pump manufacturer for wiring instructions if needed.

I purchased the Red Lion 89 GPM 2hp. I will be installing near a lake to draw water for a lawn sprinkler system. I read that a foot valve must be used for this. What is a foot valve and what is it used for?
Robert
from Texas
February 11, 2018
Answer
A foot valve is basically a termination piece for the end of your suction pipe. It contains a check valve and a filtered end for the water.
+
What effect would it have if installed with a 1 1/2" suction and a 1 1/4" discharge? Would it decrease the output and/or increase the pressure? Thank You.
Mike R.
from Florida
April 27, 2017
Answer
Installing a smaller diameter suction would starve the pump and cause the impeller to cavitate, which would lead to premature pump failure that would not be warrantied. The reduction on the discharge is not as important depending on the total discharge distance involved in the installation.
+
Can this pump be used outside with a cover and be fitted with a shutoff switch in case water level drops so the motor won't burn out?
Maria
from Washington
February 25, 2017
Answer
You always have the option of wiring in a low water cut off float switch, however we do not offer these. As such, you would need to get it from your local hardware or big box store. These pumps are NOT designed to be installed outdoors and exposed to the weather elements. If you plan on this, the pump DOES need to be installed inside some type of pump housing.

How many amps does this pump draw?
Kirk
from Florida
August 20, 2016
Answer
The running amp draw on the Red Lion model RLSP-200 Sprinkler Pump is 20 A @ 115 V / 10 A @ 230 V. If you need the surge or starting amp ratings, you would need to call Red Lion tech support at 888-956-0000.

This pump says 89gpm but at what pressure? Is there a place to find pump curve or any kind of performance charts to see how these pumps work at different gpm at what pressures.
Frank
from North Carolina
April 22, 2016
Answer
Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. These pump descriptions listed are rated at 10PSI at a 5 foot suction lift. The higher your pressure requirements, the lower your GPM will be. The max pressure rating for the RLSP-200 is 47PSI. The pump curve and other specs for this pump can be found on page 20 of the RED LION PRODUCT CATALOG.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Wiring 220. I see a screw connection for L1,L2 and green screw for ground. I see no screw connection for the white common. There is a tab. How should I attach?
Joseph J
from South Carolina
October 06, 2014
Answer
For 220v the 2 hot wires (usually red and black) will go to L1 and L2. The ground will go to the green bolt. If you have a white common (which is used for controls) it wont be used.
+
Does this require a pressure tank as well. I will use it to water lawn.
Tim T
from Minnesota
August 25, 2014
Answer
The sprinkler pumps can be installed with or without a pressure switch and pressure tank. The tank installation will however, increase the life of the pump as it helps to prevent the pump from operating more than is needed based on the tank capacity and pressure settings.
+
Can I use this product to pump water from lake and hook into in-ground sprinkling system? We are not getting enough water from well to use system. Is product electric?
Jane
from Illinois
April 23, 2014
Answer
Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct. You can use just about any SPRINKLER PUMP for your application. Please keep in mind however, that these pumps are limited in suction lift to 25 feet at sea level, pumping distance and lift and you would need to know the GPM/PSI requirements for your sprinkler system in order to size your pump correctly. These pumps will typically operate on 120v or 230V power.
If you have additional questions and/or you can provide this information, I'll be happy to assist you further.

I live in N Idaho and will be drawing out of the lake, I see where the pump has a self draining housing, will that be OK for when winter rolls around? or is this something that I would have to blow out every season?
Rick
from Idaho
March 22, 2014
Answer
Thank you for your interest in Water Pumps Direct.
Per the Owners Manual:
Should the pump be subject to freezing temperatures,
it will be necessary to drain the pump completely. To drain, remove
the drain plug located at the bottom of the front face of the pump
casing and the priming plug and make sure that the drain hole is
not restricted. After all the water has been drained, operating the
pump for a few seconds will ensure that the impeller is devoid of
water (make sure that the suction line is also devoid of water).

What kind of warranty do I have when I buy this pump.
Andrew
from Colorado
August 05, 2013
Answer
The Red Lion RLSP Self-Priming Cast Iron Sprinkler Pumps come with a 2 year manufacturer warranty. If you should have any problems with the pump, you would first contact Red Lion tech support. If they deem your pump defective, you would contact us with the name of the tech you spoke to and their diagnosis and we would handle the warranty for you.

Can the RLSP150 be used outside unprotected?
Frank Wilhelm
from Michigan
June 13, 2012
Answer
While any of these sprinkler pumps can be permanantly mounted outdoors, it does need to be protected from the elements and should be covered with some type of housing that also allows for adaquete ventilation.

Per the instruction manual:
Keep motor operating area as dry as possible. Install the pump in a clean, dry, and ventilated location that provides adequate drainage, room for servicing, and protection from freezing temperatures. Bolt down the pump evenly on a good foundation, preferably concrete, to prevent the development of unnecessary stress. Locate the pump as close as possible to the water supply to reduce friction losses in the suction pipe and to provide for maximum capacities. A foot valve
must be used.

Jose, Can this unit be outside? I live in Florida? What accessories do you recommend? Can you tell me what would be a reasonable installation fee. I would be replacing a 10 yr old unit. Thank you!
