Updating Earlier Review

Update. It is still my favorite splitter. But after a decade of use, the main beam failed where it was welded to the ram cylinder mount. I had a local weld shop repair and reinforce it. The color is old Ford blue, so after painting, it looks like an OEM job. I don't think it will fail this way again.

Ramsplitter - A tough machine

I purchased the 20 ton electric model after reading reviews on many makes and sizes. I was amazed how well it ran on 115V 20A service but it could not split the tough logs until it was rewired for 230V. Nothing has stopped it since!
I was a little disappointed in some of the workmanship where hole alignments were off but the simple VERY sturdy use of good metal more than compensated. I just milled a slot. Assembly was quick but I suggest having a friend help. The parts are heavy with several sharp areas to watch.

I have this model

But I have a 3 Hp electric motor on it. I like the low noise, low heat and freedom from exhaust fumes. Con: it does not have a stop to release the ram when stuck, by reversing the load.

Ramsplitter-- Quality Can Take Time, So Be Patient
By Bob Crew

Review Posted 01/19/2015
Ramsplitter builds every one of their log splitters in Rockford, IL. While these units are manufactured in America by U.S. labor, the manufacturing process is very manual and time-consuming, and as a result, it’s not unusual for a Ramsplitter brand log splitter to take as long as 6 to 8 weeks to ship to you from the time you order. There is no denying the unit you receive will be a top-quality product made by American workers. Just be prepared to wait for your unit to actually show up at your home or business. If you are in a hurry to split your logs, you may want to consider another brand of log splitter.

The Ramsplitter is a very good unit. It is very strong and walks thru every piece of knotted wood i have attempted. I hope it holds up well over the years.

Ramsplitter - Well made!
By Ed

Review Posted 04/20/2011
Bought a Ramsplitter 2 years ago. I have the 110v 20 ton model. It calls for 20 amps.
Fine in the summertime, with warm hydraulic fluid. Need at least 30 amps in the winter, or an oil warming device to get the electric motor to overcome the thick, cold fluid.
All that said, I LOVE THIS SPLITTER! Work in the heated garage in the winter, very little noise, no gas smell, no gas problems.
This splitter just works great!
