Hard To Find Parts
By Frank

Review Posted 02/19/2025
Bought this at Home Depot autumn 2016, and used heavily every year since then. The engine is great, starts on first pull every time. The auger cable broke and had to be replaced, not an uncommon thing on snowblowers. The chute base also cracked and had to be replaced, such a high stress part should not have been made of plastic, that's a poor design. Unfortunately I was unable to purchase the parts here in Canada, as the Powersmart website only ships within the US. I was forced to have them shipped to an American relative's house and then have him reship them to me, very frustrating.

Living in Maine in the woods with a dirt driveway! Never had paid to be fixed or have a tune-up. Basic maintenance every spring and fall! It has pull started every single fall just fine! Shear pins are hard to find at local Ace, Home Depot, and Lowe’s because of their smaller size. Other than that, this is an absolute beast of a machine!

Fixed A Junked One

I got one someone threw away and just drained the gas soaked oil out and put some fresh stuff in. Put all new Tygon tubing on to replace the split fuel lines. Would only run with choke on and had no power so I took carb off and cleaned out. Runs absolutely perfect now. I'm using it now from this "Blizzard" of 2022 in the Northeast with almost 30 inches of snow. It's throwing snow across my yard and having no issues whatsoever. Sure its a cheap unit, but with a little ingenuity and time, this thing will be a beast. Akin to buying a cheap Wrangler and all of a sudden you have a rock crawling monster. If the motor blows up, big deal, run to Harbor freight and get a cheap engine and get another few years out of it. Adding tracks to it, so be more capable.

A Great Product That Works Hard & Runs Like A Charm

The unit started quickly all four times I had to use it this winter. Runs well with a powerful engine and an auger that throws the snow from 6 to about 40 feet. Not too hard on fuel - I used premium 92 octane fuel and got great results. The machine is easy to clean and with minor maintenance, the bolts remain tight and the operation is smooth. No complaints!

Rubbish!

Cheap thin sheet metal housing, Chinese Honda knockoff engine is crap. Would not start after first season. Completely drained all gas and the carburetor still gummed up! Can't get a new "o" ring/ gasket for that carb even though the diameter is the same as Briggs/Stratton, Tecumsah etc. It may throw powder 30 or 40 feet but if you try to blow heavy snow you're lucky if it goes 5 or 6'. It constantly clogs, and the housing is so flimsy it crumbled a few times and needed to be bent back into shape.

It's season two and the thing wont start with new plug, gas etc. Carburetor gasket was pinched at two points when I took the cup off and can't find a replacement. So it pisses gasoline. I should have just bought ten shovels for the same price. DO NOT RECOMMEND ! it is a piece of crap. I should have known this by the low price, Spend your cash on a Name Brand. my TORO started every year for 22 years with routine maintenance, All I had to do was let it run dry at the end of the season!!

Power Smart 22" vs Cub Cadet 3x-26" HD
By Michael D.
Baltimore, Maryland
Review Posted 02/14/2016
I’m retired & 67 years old, I've spent the last 20 years transcribing “mil-specs” into calibration procedures, so I know my way around technical documents.

Last year I bought my first snow blower, a Power Smart 22”/208cc, which worked great until I tried to clear the 3+ ft. piled up at the end of the driveway, I burned up the auger belt. This year I did not get back to Baltimore Country until two days after the big storm, however with a new auger belt I was able to handle the 24-30” snow off the driveway & walk by raising the auger above the snow & letting the auger eat it’s way to the ground.

I ordered a Cub Cadet 3X- 26” HD to handle the 4+ ft. snow pile left at the foot of my driveway by the country plow, but by the time I got my Cub Cadet, the mound of snow had been rained on & turned into a 24” mound of ice. I tested both units.

Power Smart threw the ice 8-16 ft. & the Cub Cadet threw the ice 15-25 FT. & was much quicker. However that was the only advantage the Cub Cadet had.

Power Smart advantage: delivered cost only $450 & it comes with an owner’s manual which describes the machine I bought & how to assemble, use & make repairs. Also a gas tank filter to keep debris from entering with the gas, and a cap to protect the 120V plug. Follow the book & it starts on the first easy pull & to drain all the gas at the end of the season, there is a 10mm bolt at the bottom of the carburetor bowl.

Cub Cadet: delivered cost $1399: comes with two manuals which describe apparently every snow blower made by cub cadet. I have never seen such a poorly written manuals, between both manuals there must be 30 different warnings that gasoline is flammable.

When you spend over $1000 you expect a manual which describes what you just purchased & not a course in Cub Cadet’s full line of snow blowers. The unit is more difficult to start & at the beginning of the day the 120V electric start is needed. After it’s warmed up, It will start after a couple of hard pulls, but if it’s off for 30 min the 120V is needed again.

There is no filter on the gas tank, or cover for the 120V plug & at the end of the season you’re instructed to run the motor until the gas tank is empty.

Fantastic snow blower this is my third one in 25 years and it runs just as good as my Toro. I really like the controls and it picks up deep snow with no problem.

Trouble
By Pasquale A.

Review Posted 01/25/2016
Worked fine for about 45 mins then the augur stop turning. We checked the augur pins and they were fine then we checked the belt that turns the augur that was the problem, repair was complete started again after blowing 5 feet the things stops again. Fix was completed tried again and went another five or six feet and it stops blowing snow again. we checked augur belt tension which was fine.

I need to know what to do to fixes this problem to complete the job I started yesterday ???

Stay away from this snow blower and spend extra money and buy a name brand from a dealer not from "The Home Depot" because they can't do anything except tell you to call the Power Smart for a fix.

I want my money back Power Smart !!!

Another blizzard on the way! Just got my snow blower yesterday. Put it together in no time, had it out all day cleaning up from previous storms. Starts easy and chops packed snow without clogging. Can't wait to try it on fresh snow!!
