Doesn't Work
By Brian Z.

Review Posted 10/29/2022
I received my blower last November. It started right up but I couldn’t open the choke fully. It would only run with Chile 1/2 way. This bothered me. The carburetor seems cheaply made. The choke is merely a plastic disk that covers the air intake on the carburetor. I found that this carburetor has no jet adjustments. There’s no way to adjust your fuel air mix. Period. But I was happy with the power and performance although I thought I can’t be getting full power if I can’t fully open the choke. With the choke fully open the engine stalls when you pull the throttle. I used it once last fall. I drained the gas and stored it. I got out this year and changed the oil and put in the highest octane gas with a stabilizer added, as always. I only use high octane gas in small engines. Well, this year again it started right up. Purred like a kitten. I let it warm up and opened choke slowly and again it would not let me open full choke. This year it wouldn’t even run at 1/2 choke. It idles wonderfully but no matter what position the choke is in, it stalks as soon as you throttle. And being that there are no jet adjustment screws, not even the ones that you get on cheaper stuff, all you can do is look at it. Oh, I checked the fuel filter on the end of the gas hose. I checked for instructions I checked air filter. But, then there’s nothing you can do but look at it. Whoever recommended that cheap carburetor should be at minimum reprimanded. I saved for three years to get a 4 cycle backpack blower. I have 37 trees in my yard. And here I am with a rake again just 8 months after buying a 430$ Makita backpack blower. I’ve always loved Makita. I was proud to show off my Makita blower. I mailed it to a service center 3 weeks ago and haven’t heard a word. No emails nothing. I’m wondering if I’ll ever see it again. I don’t know how they can fix it. If you want to put a real carburetor on it the entire choke assembly would have to be fitted. As the cheap plastic disk with a lever arm adjuster could not easily be changed to a cable assembly control. I would really just like my money back

TOO Heavy

We had am ECHO 2 cycle backpack blower. My wife uses it exclusively. Wanted to switch to 4 cycle. The one we ordered was noted as the lightest, however, my wife cannot use it. TOO heavy to lift and even when it's on her back, too heavy. Going to have to sell it. Only used for 10 minutes. I actually tried to cancel the order when placed for an alternative product but it had already shipped.

Expert Response
We are sorry to hear that your new Makita blower did not work out for your wife. This model is indeed one of the lightest backpack units on the market but recommend that you check out a lithium-ion powered blower such as the Redback #106485 as it's lighter and comes with a shoulder strap for support (click HERE to view).
Based on your review, it's unclear whether the unit was used or not before determining that it was too heavy. If this is the case and you have yet to oil or gas the blower, you are encouraged to consider a return. To view the details regarding returns, please click HERE.
Your business is greatly appreciated, and we hope to have an opportunity to work with in finding the right leaf blower for your wife's needs. Please feel free to reach out directly with any questions or concerns you may have, thanks again.

Satisfactory But Not Terrific Leaf Blower

This blower sufficient for residential use. Not quite as powerful as anticipated. It is a bit awkward putting on and removing and is not very comfortable. The base model does not come with a waist belt for lower back support, causing discomfort if the user has any lower back issues. The assembly instructions and process are very easy and the blower starts well, though at times not on the first pull, notwithstanding following the exact instructions.

My previous blower was a different brand. I tried this one because I wanted a 4-cycle, which are harder to find. I expected more power from it. Not very impressed with the performance for the price. It’s ok, not thrilled.

Makita Wins Again!

I bought this gas leaf blower largely on Makita's reputation as a great electronic tool maker. I was not disappointed! Reliable, easy to use, and a real power-house. I've used other brand blowers before, and they all fell short for a number of reasons. My only rec. is to make the shoulder straps longer, to cinch them up tighter for more comfort. Aside from this, though I def. would rec. this product to the diy'er.
