Alaskan Mill
By Andrew K.

Review Posted 08/03/2021
I milled My first log a red oak 9' long 20" dia. The mill was easy to set up. I made a set of rails, made the first cut, then it was a piece of cake. Added a winch from a boat trailer and there was no looking back. A great product anyone with chainsaw skills and common sense will have no problem with this mill. I highly recommend this mill. I started with a ms391 but went to a 660 more power is better. It's a quality mill that should last a lifetime with proper care.

It Was Worth The Wait During The Extemely Long Lead Times For Me

I first purchased and returned a Chinese knock-off mill due to the long lead times from Granberg for their G-778-36 model. While you have to weigh the wait times against the overall value Granberg's G-778-36 will not disappoint you as the cheap mills found elsewhere.

While I have a bandmill, I needed this to cut larger slabs. My bandmill max is 30", with this I can cut about 34".

So far, I love this mill. I’ve only cut one board so far, but I see no problems for more. The quality is excellent, and the directions are easy to follow, which is something you don’t always receive.

Easy To Assemble & Use

Quality parts that are easy to assemble. You will need a system for getting your first cut flat (Granberg rails, an old ladder, etc), but milling with this thing is as easy as they say, as long as you have a saw with enough power. I’ve been using mine to get some boards or slabs out of logs that are too small to take to a local sawyer.

I have milled the largest sections of a redwood tree, and the mill has been working fine with my Husky 572 and a 36" Oregon blade with a ripping chain.
