Answer
The Generac Cold Weather Kit, Model 6212-0 will still be compatible with your older Guardian 16kW standby system. This kit will utilize the 240V connections that are present via the N1 & N2 terminals. It is recommended to have this kit installed by a Generac certified technician.

Does this cold weather kit come with enough length in the wiring harness to allow proper installation of the harness? In the photo, the length looks to be pretty short. We recently install the 20KW unit and tonight our temps are expected to reach -17 degrees. This kit is something we should consider adding.

Answer
Some of the Generac home standbys will come with pre-wired harnesses so the use of the extension harness is not necessary. The Generac 6212-0 Cold Weather Kit will come with wire extensions in order to complete your installation where the extensions are not present.

Based on the record low temperatures we are experiencing, I would strongly advise the use of a cold weather kit.

The cold weather kit is temperature activated and does not come on until temperatures reach 34 degrees F or below.

This can be left on all year.
