Thanks for the reply, so I take it it's OK to plug in the battery charge cable while the generator is running, I just want to be sure and not fry anything, again, thank you.

Answer
There is not a problem plugging the charger into one of the outlets to charge the battery. I personally would make sure that the battery is disconnected and no other items are plugged into the generator. This is to simply prevent any damage to the unit.

Hi, question on the battery on this model, Generac GP6500E - 6500 Watt Electric Start Portable Generator, #5941 does this unit charge the battery while running, or is that what the battery cable is for? Thank you.

Answer
Thank you for contacting us.

This unit does come with a 12V charger included to charge the generator.

Running the generator does not charge the battery.

If you have any questions please let us know.

Hi Mike, I have a GP6500 generator, is there a electric start kit available for it?

Answer
Thanks for your inquiry.

Generac does not offer an electric start kit to be added onto any of their portable generators. Because of the engine configuration an electric start cannot be added on.

Does this generator have an invertor to protect sensitive circuits? If not, does Generac make one that does? Or does it have a feature on it that protects sensitive circuits?

Answer
The only Generac model generator that offers clean power output for sensitive electronics is their XP line of portable generators which offers their TruePower technology.

Note: Special GFI type or Switch Neutral Kit type transfer switches are required to properly connect the XP generators to your electrical service panel.

Jim, I have an outlet which says 20 amps and 120/250 volts. I assume this means I cannot purchase the GP6500 watt electric start since it is rated 30 amps. Is this correct and if so do you have a lower wattage generator that is electric start?

Answer
Just about all manufacturers have standardized on the L14-30R receptacle. If you were to look at the Honeywell 5500E, that machine does have a 30amp receptacle too - but it has a max output of 23amps and the circuit breaker on the panel is a 20amp. So, you can use this generator in your current set up by changing the plug end on your cord. The limiting factor is the breaker on the generator - not the plug end.

Does battery charger come with generator or does it have to be purchased separately?

I just received the generator I purchased from you (Generac GP5500 - 5500 Watt Portable Generator) and it comes with a bottle of oil. It does not say on the bottle what type it is. 30 weight or 10w30? Do you know so that it is the proper oil to use for the current temperature. Thanks, Larry

Jim: I want to buy a protective cover for my Generac 5623 6500W portable generator (33.5" x 26.5" x 27.5"). Any recommendations for a cover that will fit this model of generator?

Answer
The Classic Accessories Large Cover will fit up to 8000 watts. We have tested these covers on all of the Generac GP model generators and other manufacturers.

Note: It is important to not include the wheels when measuring the width as the generator covers are not meant to cover them.
