Q: We are installing a fence line with cattle panels. We are looking at either the one man auger or the two man dually. Is there a centrifugal slip clutch on both of them to stop them if we hit a rock. We have heard horror stories about broken arms. What would you recommend. Thank you.
by Kevin Beaner from South Dakota on March 26, 2016

A: Kevin,

Both of these augers do have a centrifugal clutch and they actually have the same clutch. Iím not sure it would be considered a slip clutch though. However If a rock is hit, the shock spring on the auger bit is designed to take the initial hit which would bog the engine down which in turn would cause the clutch to disengage. I would consider the dually if it is a very rocky area so that the force would be distributed between two people rather than just one person.

Q: What size auger would I need for installing 2 inch steel fence posts for a chain link fence. They will be installed with concrete.
by Dave from New York on November 30, 2013

A: Dave,

Typically for a 2" metal fence post you would need a 6" auger bit. Check with local code for any conflictions to this, but I would say that this is standard.

Q: Does the engine require oil mixed with gas?
Earthquake E-43 auger

by Jim Gardner from South Carolina on June 20, 2013

A: Jim - the Earhquake E-43 earth auger has a 2-cycle engine, so yes, you do need to mix gas and oil together on this unit.

Works Good
Works good until you hit a rock. Better be ready to let go, or you'll go for a spin!

Pretty Decent Auger
I bought this because I need to add onto the chicken coop, and need to replace my decks next year.

I just fired it up today and hooked up the 10" auger. After opening the auger up, I saw how huge it was. I thought it was overkill, and too much for that Earthquake.

It handled my first hole very well. There is very hard and rocky soil on my property, so I will have to invest in a good spudbar and a manual post hole digger to keep the rocks broken up. It is much better than the manual... more

Earthquake 43cc One Man Auger
I purchased the E-43 Earthquake power head and 8" auger to dig fence post holes. Received both in a few days. I have dug 3 fence post holes with it so far. I found that it was a little hard to get it started. The temp was around 90 on the couple of days that I used it. Had to fiddle with the choke after pulling the starter cord a few dozen times. Eventually it started and worked fine.

No problems digging the holes. The ground is a bit sandy in the area that I live so that... more

Great Tool For Roofing & Waterproofing Contractors
Earthquake Augers are a flexible tool that we use for mixing 55-gallon drums of material. Most liquid applied products have solids that settle to the bottom of the drums and are difficult to mix. We have found the E-43 invaluable in our operation since it does a fantastic job and one man can handle the mixing operation.

Powerful Small Auger
I am using my old 8 inch auger with a 1 foot extension and the power head works well but slows down when it gets into the sticky damp clay.

The clay tries to jam the auger but by pulling it up frequently I was able to dig 3 feet deep. I did not have any problems with the power head and in dry hard soil it dug very well and quickly.
Pros: Easy To Use, Light Weight, Exceeded Expectations, Fast

Not For Deep Digging
I bought the auger thinking I could add extensions to dig a shallow well. First of all, the auger has a 7/8" shaft, so unless you intend to but the company's outrageously priced 2' extensions you will be making your own. 1" and 3/4" pipe will require welding skills.

Then I learned the clutch requires a two hour break in period. How long do you intend to drill post holes?

I decided to try to drill some holes. When the blade finally did start turning the grass wound around... more
