Great Chain Saw for the price!

Great saw, fast shipping I would recommend this saw! I have gone through about three cords of standing dead Ash and now am I getting into some oak. The saw has been flawless with easy starts and seems to sip fuel. I did lose (and found) the oil cap, so check that it is on securely because the plastic retainer strap in the tank isn't strong enough to hold it in the chainsaw.

This is a good homeowners blade with low kickback so in that regards it is a good blade. I, however, wanted something a little faster cutting and didn't realize that this was an Oregon "V" or advantage style of blade until after using it in the field, I will order a "LGX" power cut and keep this a spare.

This is the third Dolmar I have purchased. They are a high quality saw, dependable, and durable. The 6100 I purchased at Chain Saws Direct. They're a great place to do business with, and I will do future business with them.

I was looking to upgrade from my Husky 55 and after viewing CSD reviews and YouTube clips decided on the Dolmar PS-6100.
Pluses are how strong this saw runs, field service features and quality of the build. Minuses are the second time out the throttle cable somehow slipped out of its nest on the carb.
Saw would not run and it took a half hour to figure this out, snapped the cable back into place and we were off and running. Last concern was with how saw was packed for shipment.
After receipt I opened the box and it looked like everything was just thrown in the box loose and the box taped shut. To say the least disappointed that this is how a $600. saw would be shipped.

The saw is very light weight given its size, and it is very simple to use. The best feature for me is the high engine rpm's which makes cutting large trees a breeze!

Powerhouse saw that needs a better oiling system

I've used this saw about 10 times. It is very powerful and runs great. With the oiler on the highest setting, it puts out about 1/2 of the oil that other saws I've used put out. The oil passages are also easily plugged, and require a very thorough cleaning after 1/2 hour of cutting. The 2 guys I cut with use a Husky 60cc, and a Stihl 55cc. I can out cut both until the oiler plugs up and the chain starts to smoke. It's not a matter of a dull blade. My backup saw is a craftsman 50cc which is not very powerful, but I can cut for hours without taking it apart and cleaning it.

Be sure you're using a quality bar & chain oil - not motor oil. If you're using the right oil and still experiencing problems, consider thinning it a bit. If the oil is thin and clean enough, it should make its way through the opening just right.
If all else fails, you can email Dolmar customer support at support@dolmarpowerproducts.com to find out what their recommendations are or if they can repair/replace the saw under warranty.

It's been too hot to saw yet.....hoping in the coming weeks to try out the saw. When it's in the 90's, it's just a little too hot to fire up the saw....Saw looks and feels great. Will report after we get it into the woods....

Great saw

I've looked at every saw I could and I picked the Dolmar 6100. I feel it's the best bang for the buck. I hesitated for a long time before I bought one because I just had a hard time parting with the cash. When I found out they were gonna change to Makita, well, I just couldn't wait.
I am not a Makita fan by any means trying to get warranty work or parts is like trying to pull a hens tooth. So I definitely wanted one that was a Dolmar not Makita. I love it, lots of power, rpm ease of use. Quite possibly the perfect saw.

I bought this chainsaw because it is supposed "The Chainsaw" of all chainsaws. I have used it three, that is right... 3 times and it will not stay on after I cut some mesquite trees. After I cut down the tree, I let go of the throttle..... Chainsaw turns off.
I spend more time trying to turn it on......it is not even funny. My two middle fingers have blisters on the inner side. I will not touch any of the components because warranty may get void.
I will be contacting PED and see what they can do. So far, the my neighbor's 15 year old stihl has out performed this Dolmar 6100.. :(
PS....Do not spend the $$$

I apologize for the unit not performing as expected for your application. This may be due to an issue with the saw itself in which Dolmar may be able to troubleshoot over the phone with you or repair the unit under the 2 year manufacturer warranty. I would recommend reaching out to Dolmar directly for further assistance.
Once again I do apologize for this inconvenience. Thank you for taking the time to write and honest review, I hope you have a great day!
