Owned For 2 Years & Still Splitting Very Well!

Review Posted 10/20/2020
I have split many rounds with this log splitter, including large 24-inch diameter by 18 inch long rounds of oak and ash with no problem. The log splitter still starts up with the first pull and runs great! I have towed it a few times to properties and back and have had no issues with towing/wheels/ etc.
The only issue I have with this splitter is the hose fittings tend to vibrate loose and start dripping hydraulic fluid. Plus, the unit on a whole is rather "noisy", so I use earplugs when I split for any length of time.
I can't complain one bit about how easy the log splitter starts with a single pull even after two years of use. I have split numerous cords of all kinds of wood with this splitter, always in the vertical position. I have yet to use it in the horizontal position. It seems to run forever on a single tank of gas.
I wish the "ruler" sticker on the unit was placed in a different spot because it has worn off long ago. I have used a sharpie to put my most frequent measurements on the unit. I cut my rounds into as many 18" lengths as possible. I have split white oak, red oak, sweetgum, cherry, maple, pine, boxelder, ash, elm, hickory, walnut, and the unit has been able to handle all wood types I have put in it!
Overall, I would recommend this log splitter to anyone that splits wood for winter use. It has saved me TONS of time and my physical energy with all the wood I have split to date and will split in the future.

Leaky Hydraulics

I bought mine online because I did not want a rusty one sitting outside at a store. I read the instructions and assembled it which was not hard. First log I split I have hydraulic fluid leaking in two places. First the cylinder seal was DOA. The factory assembler also did not tighten the fitting on top of the valve enough. DHT was good with warranty and is shipping me a new cylinder but I have to disassemble the machine and put it back together which is costing me valuable work time.

Nice Splitter

I've had my Dirty Hands 22-ton splitter for four seasons now and has been responsible for splitting more than 10 chords per year (I help other folks with their yearly load). Over the years I have been impressed with it's work capacity (5 to 6 chord splitting sessions) and the 22 ton hydraulic system has only stalled on only two pieces of wood. It seems that I can get through close to two chords on a tank of gas which I feel is quite good. The only issue I have is that the splitter vibrates too much and that if you're working on your concrete driveway the tongue of the machine will move/wander a bit. Besides that I feel it was a quality purchase.

Looking For Help

I was excited to get the splitter home and running. After a simple assembly, I filled the oil and hydraulic fluid as directed. The motor started fine, however, it lugs terribly under load and almost stops running. After splitting wood for approximately one hour the hydraulic cylinder started to make a high pitch whine, I immediately stopped running the splitter and noticed the cylinder and hydraulic tank were extremely hot, almost too hot to touch without a gloved hand. I stopped running the splitter and contacted customer support. Unfortunately, I have not heard back from anyone and am still waiting for direction on having the splitter serviced.

This Is Just What I Have Needed For Many Years
By Renfred Z.

The product arrived and thanks to the hydraulic lift, driver, and myself we got it on my driveway. I am 71 years old and I assembled and unpackaged the machine myself without any help. The instructions are easy to understand and the way it was packaged allowed me to assemble it without help. I filled it with 5 gallons of hydraulic oil then put engine oil in and fueled it up. I also installed by myself the large table. With the table one needs a long flexible funnel to fill the gas tank. I highly recommend the large table, not the little one that comes with it. It is worth the $100 because it protects the hydraulic tank and engine from logs falling accidentally on the key components. By the way, the engine started on the second crank. My daughters love to split wood now.

As in the title, I am very happy with the purchase. The only complaint is that all of the fittings leak. The assembler must have been short on thread sealer that day because every fitting has given me leak issues. I recommend this but be sure to seal all threads prior to use.
