Cub Cadet 13A9A1CS010 Reviews & Ratings

build quality suspect

I purchased this mower after extensive research.Out of the crate I was pleased with my decision. Everything worked as it should and some features even exceeded my expectations, such as the steering and ground speed. I purchased the mower in mid June and by mid July, less than 30 days and only 5.8 hours into my mower purchase the machine failed to start.
Customer service told me to purchase a new battery that it was probably just a bad cell but the battery was able to be fully charged and my authorized dealer suggested that the battery was not the issue. The dealer service dept. found that the Bendix was stuck and not engaging the flywheel due to a lubrication issue.
To Cub Cadet's credit, the repair was covered. However, I have to pay 79.50 for the pick up and return. I do not feel that I should have to pay anything on a new mower repair within 30 days of purchase. Caveat Emptor. I'm giving the mower two stars and if possible will follow up on my rating in one year.

Nice mower

I am impressed with this fuel injected motor, it's definitely NOT lacking any power. My only complaint is that the selling price was full retail but I had to do a LOT of assembly that would have been done by the local dealer for free, if I had a local dealer that sold this upscale model. I will not order online in the future, but will wait for the unit to become available locally to avoid several hours of assembly.

The mower comes shipped in a crate, and should have required only minor assembly. Your order was shipped out a week after receiving your check payment due to policy. Paying by check gets you a discount on your order, but we do hold off shipping the order until the check has cleared (about 1 week).
If you have any issues with your order, please don't hesitate to let us know so we can help.

I almost bought the tractor here, but the local dealer had one and it was the same price, so I bought it from him, I brought it home in the back of my pick up. Once home, the engine starts right up and runs smoothly. When I tried the machine for the first time the grass was nearly 12" tall in places.
With the mulch plate installed and new mulch blades mounted, the machine goes right through the grass, and leaves the lawn looking great. The engine doesn't bog down either. Too bad Cub doesn't list the HP of this engine, but rest assured, it has the power to chop down 12" tall grass.
When you drive the machine you press a pedal to go forward or reverse. It also has cruise control. That's a nice touch.
The blade safety is a bit of a nuisance, but it is what it is I guess. If you press and hold that button on the main switch for 3 seconds, the light will stay red so you can indeed mow in reverse.
Being a mechanic, I looked at the spindle bearings and found they are sealed units but without grease fittings. I decided to remove the deck and add the peace of mind of grease fittings to the spindle bearings. The deck removes in a few minutes by pulling 3 pins, 2 in the rear and 1 up front. You also need to remove 1 pin that disconnects the PTO cable. You also have to remove the deck belt from the engine pulley. In 5 minutes I had the deck against my bench.
When I disassembled the tower bearings I found they were in fact greased from the factory. Imagine that, someone greased the bearings before they put the unit together! This is reassuring that the Cub tractor is built right.
I think the headlights need to be switched so you can turn the things off during the daytime. Well, I did that improvement too.
I did change the oil after my third use. The oil filter unscrews like any ole filter, but it was very tight. Inside I noticed a spring inside the filter.
Weird, the OEM replacement filter doesn't have that feature. The oil drain hose makes the oil change less messy. All in all I find the Cub tractor a good value and recommend it. If the tractor is used with care, and maintained it will last you many years.

I like the easy steering, easy start every time. It is the best rider for the price on the market. If you ever had water from washing your mower or it rained on it get into the carburetor and the problems that caused is why I was so happy the EFI came out. The LED headlights are very cool. One safety feature that you have to get use to and remember while mowing in reverse is to push and hold the yellow button for 3 seconds which is my only dislike but once that function is performed it is perfect.
Short turning radius. The folding armrest are a luxury. I am currently adding a sleeve hitch, front bucket loader, a box scraper. This will be the challenge for the Cub Cadet, will it perform, I think it won't have any problems. I do have to modify the frame by drilling a couple holes to adapt the mount that the craftsman front bucket attaches to. I haven't uncoupled the mower deck yet but that is supposed to be fairly simple. Cub Cadet is known for pull a pin, remove the belt, tool-less. I am very satisfied with my Cub Cadet. I had zero issues.

Great mower

I will need to write a review after I have used this for a full season, however my first impressions are as follows. The steering is fantastic, so easy to turn it feels like power steering. The captain style seat with the arm rests coupled with the springs under it add up to a very comfortable ride. Plenty of power and tight turning radius really make this a joy to use.
When it comes to mowing, the mower vibrates a bit but I think that is due to the quick detach mower deck. The more you use it the more you get used to it.
In response to the last post, if you are mowing leaves with the deck set high then of course they are going to blow up and into your face. If you don't want that to happen, rake your yard, leaf blow, put a bagger on your mower, or lower the deck and mulch them like you said. The fact that leaves blow in your face is not a down side to this mower.

Just got her today...
Negatives
First run was not good...leaves shooting up to my face practically...not sure why but deck needs to be below 3 inches or that will happen. Chute also clogged quite a bit more than I would have liked. Grass as dry as bone ...probably will get worse with wet conditions. Need to play with it a bit more to see what causes that...as it wasn't clogged every time I stopped. Easy to tell though when its clogged as condition above happens, leaves to the face.
To remove bags you have to tilt seat forward to open lid...not fun every time you need to dump.
Positives
Ran smooth and quick. Steering is a dream, feather touch to head in different direction.
I was nervous about manual PTO but it worked as smooth as butter. Very comfortable. Looks awesome!!!
I think this will be a great mulching mower(will add mulching kit in a few weeks)...bagger is just avg or maybe a touch below.
Comparing all this to my dad's 20 year old toro which bags better...larger bags as well.
