Electric Start Seldom Works
By Pin H.
Colorado
Review Posted 05/22/2016
I bought this mower for my girlfriend to use when I am out of town. She is not particularly strong and is unable to use the pull start so the electric start was the driving force in the purchase. Unfortunately it simply will not start the mower reliably. When I use the mower, I pull start two out of three times because the electric start simply won't start the unit.
After storage this year the unit refused to start at all in the spring. I ordered a replacement carburetor online which did the trick, but the complex float type carburetor is not suited to sitting over the winter. Lastly, the self propulsion system is weak and slips fairly easily. I really find it hard to recommend this mower.

Good features bad ergonomics

Bought the mower and didn't use it for a month then started to use it . The electric start worked fine for me the, single lever adjustment worked fine. The mower runs OK but smoked and ran rough. The discharge chute plastic deflector fell off on little bumps, this closed the chute. A real pain, the rubber on the handle bar rip just from my gloved hands. The thing would not reverse without first moving it forward then back (never could get use to that). Very hard to steer like it was heavy. The drive slipped much of the time. One great thing is they got the bag insert almost right, left side would fill with grass and couldn't get it back on. Short story, if you are no too old and want a work out get it, other wise don't buy it.
P.S. Cub Cadet ran me around for three weeks returning this mower. I had to tell them I was going to hire a lawn maintenance co. to mow my lawn. Bad company bad machine.

Works but a little weak

I ordered this mower because I thought it was a good price from Mowers Direct with free shipping and I didn't have time to shop. I didn't need electric start, but thought it would be interesting. It didn't work out of the box. The battery would never take a charge. I let it go because I'm sure it wasn't worth the hassle and the mower starts on the first pull with little effort. It runs nice. The other issue that I have is that the drive system slips very easily. I have very rough hills to mow and the slightest mole or ant hill stops the self propel mechanism. It would be great for a flat lawn that's in good shape, but that just isn't my application. It's still easier for me to manhandle this mower through the bumps with the weak rear drive rather than go with the ever popular front drive.
I guess was spoiled with my old Lawn Boy. It had a strong drive system and could actually help hold me on the steep hills. The Cub Cadet requires me to help it on the steep hills.
Overall - It will do.

Junk mower and no one stands behind it

Shopped for a key start mower. This seemed to be the best buy. Has been used three times and never started with a key. Out of the box one screw had fell off the height adjustment. Put it back with never seize only to have it fall off and not be found. Cub Cadets site listed a service center close to me only to have them tell me they don't work on anything they don't sell. After taking it to a center more than thirty miles away it has been two weeks and they can't tell me when it will be fixed. On a plus it is the best self propelled mower I have used but I guess I'll go back to Craftsman.

When I got mower to start it mowed well. Stopped to empty the bag and it won't restart. Two mowings and same problem. Electric start is not good and can pull on manual start and same problem---won't start. Previous mower (not Cub Cadet) and barely had to turn key and it would start and same with pulling on cord. Not happy.

This Mower Stinks

Got this last year. Had to have a new engine put in off the bat. Used it along with my 23 year old Toro mower last year. The old Toro with the pull start is always there for me and mulches better. Now after my first winter with this mower I can't get it to start. The old Toro started on the second pull. Going to try a new spark plug and if it starts I think its going on Craigslist. I agree with the person who says its runs uneven. It doesn't mulch well. I wouldn't recommend this unless you live near me and want a one year old mower at less than the price you see here :)
