Q: Does the battery and sump pump come withmodel 507
by Dale C from Michigan on March 11, 2014

A: The Zoeller model 507 Battery Backup Sump Pumps System includes everything EXCEPT for the battery. We recommend the Zoeller Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 83AH Wet Battery, model 10-0761 or the Zoeller Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 72AH AGM Battery, model 10-145.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Looking down the road, if and when the pump fails / wears out, would I be able to replace it or do I need to replace the entire unit? Hence, would I be able to use the power inverter or controller with other pumps? Thanks.
by Larry from Illinois on January 22, 2014

A: These battery backup systems, like any other system are designed to work with their specific components only. If any one of them should fail, you could contact the MANUFACTURER and they would assist you in replacing the specific component.

by Jim, Product Expert
Q: hello, the zoeleer website states the battery must have minimum 105 amp-hr,do you carry that battery? Thank you.Perhap the Zoeller info is wrong.
by Randy from Michigan on February 06, 2013

A: Thank you for visiting Sump Pumps Direct. In answer to your question, battery ratings can get a bit confusing since ratings can be determined in amp hours (AH), amps and reserve minutes. While it's true that the manual does list the required minimum Amp Hour rating at 105, the Zoeller website also lists the following:

Battery Life:
The estimated life of a fully charged (175 minute reserve capacity) battery when the pump is operating continuously is approximately 7 ½ hours. Example – The model 510 at 10 ft. head will pump 1,296 GPH. Most backup systems require intermittent pump operation. All models will provide protection for extended periods of time dependent upon stop-start requirements. Note: The 510 offers extended backup protection if the regular primary sump pump fails.

Performance Data:
Pump performance is based on the use of a fully charged 12 Volt, (200 minute reserve capacity) for models 507 and 510, deep-cycle battery with no deficiency and less than two years old.

Aquanot® Battery:
Size 31 “Wet” P/N 10-0761 (69 lbs./31kg ), shipped via truckline only, 200 minute reserve capacity
Size 27 “AGM” P/N 10-1450 (66 lbs./29kg), 175 minute reserve capacity
Minimum battery requirements: deep cycle, size 27, 175 minute reserve capacity

In addition, the manual for the 507 Sentry Battery Backup also lists the following:
There are millions of batteries manufactured each year, so it is impossible to guarantee consistent quality. A defective battery will never become fully charged and may damage the charging circuits of the Control. It is for this reason that Zoeller offers its own line of batteries. We offer both a Water/Acid Deep-Cycle Battery which can run the pump continuously for over 7½ hours, and a Maintenance-Free AGM Battery, which will power the pump for over 3½ hours. These times are based on continuous pumping at 10' of static head. Actual times will vary depending on static head, volume of water entering the pit, and the condition of the battery.

Follow these recommendations:
• Use a B.C.I. size 27 deep-cycle battery, 175 minute reserve capacity, or larger.
• Do NOT use a “maintenance-free” battery unless it is a Gel-fi lled or AGM battery.
• Replace your battery every 3 years.
• Do not let corrosion build up on the battery terminals.
• Do not place your battery on a concrete fl oor where it will discharge faster.
• To check specifi c gravity, follow the instructions on a hydrometer (not applicable for Gel or AGM batteries).

by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Can you use either a Maintenance Free Battery or a Acid Filled Battery with this model. I've had problems in the past with other backups that cannot use the Maintenance Free Batteries. The sets off saying the battery is bad.
by Dave from Pennsylvania on January 11, 2013

A: Yes you can!
Per the product instructions, the DC emergency pump system requires a good quality, 12 volt battery to obtain maximum pumping time during a power outage. A deep cycle, 12 volt, 105 amp-hour marine battery or larger is recommended and will provide approximately 7½ hours of continuous pumping time in a sump pump installation with 8' of head pressure. In most installations the pump runs intermittently and the battery life is extended accordingly. Batteries with top terminals are recommended for ease of installation. These batteries contain acid and proper precaution must be taken when handling. Maximum battery size 12½" Length x 7" Width x 9½" Height.
The batteries that we recommend are the Zoeller Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 83AH Wet Battery, model 10-0761 or the Zoeller Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 72AH AGM Battery, model 10-145.
The estimated life of a fully charged (175 minute reserve capacity) battery when the pump is operating continuously is approximately 7 ½ hours.

Q: I have a sump 2feet deep and 14in.wide at the bottom, thenhalf way up goes to16 in. Can I use a zoeller507 with this sytem. I have one discharge 1.25 in pvc line going outside.

by Wayne W from New Jersey on September 04, 2012

A: You should be ok as long as you mount the pump to sit just above your primary pump. The only problem you may run into it that the 507 does utilize a 1-1/2 inch discharge. If you are installing this to pipe directly into your main discharge, you would be best served to increase the discharge to 1-1/2 inch. This would help handle the extra load should your 507 activate to assist your primary pump in the event it cannot keep up with the incoming water.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I need a new battery charger. The amber light never turns green and I just had a new battery installed (the serviceman said it could be the charger, not the battery. The battery never stops 'buzzing'). I have a Basement Sentry I Model 507 10 amp, 1/2 volt. I would like to purchase a new one - can I buy it through you and if so, how much is it. If not through you, do you know where I can get it? The pump is o.k.; it's just the charger that I need.

Thank you.

by Kathleen Rhyan from Illinois on May 12, 2012

A: Unfortunately, we only offer the complete systems. You might try calling Zoeller tech support at (800) 928-7867 for further assistance. They should be able to help you out.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I am just looking into my first back up system
and need to confirm an assumption that the back up system triggers automatically by its own float. so that when the power goes out if I am not home the system will kick in automatically.

by Dave Pierpont from Connecticut on December 26, 2011

A: Yes, that is correct. As long as the battery is fully charged and the system is installed and operating correctly, the battery backup pump will activate seperately from your primary pump. Please note that all manufactures recommend that primary and battery backup systems as well as your basin be inpsected at a minimum of every 3 months to insure that it is operating correctly and that there is no debris in the basin that could potentially impede the operation of either pump.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Why do you need two seperate outlets for the Zoeller model 507

by Tom Donahue from Pennsylvania on December 22, 2011

A: The manufacturer always recommend a seperate circuit for the primary and battery backup systems for safety and to insure that the circuit breaker will not trip due to the possibility of both pumps cycling at the same time and when you may need it the most.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: is a deep cycle 12 V battery the only specs I need to change battery

by Barb from New Jersey on August 28, 2011

A: The Zoeller DC emergency pump system requires a good quality, 12 volt battery to obtain maximum pumping time during a power outage. A deepcycle, 12 volt, 105 amp-hour marine battery or larger is recommended and will provide approximately 7½ hours of continuous pumping time in a sump pump installation with 8' of head pressure. In most installations the pump runs intermittently and the battery life is extended accordingly. Batteries with top terminals are recommended for ease of installation.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I already have the system, all I want to do is replace the pump itself and the Marine battery. Can I buy those 2 peices separatly instead of buying the whole kit ( I don't need the battery charger and plastic battery case) I would like to save some money if possible.
by Tom Prokuda from Michigan on May 30, 2011

A: We only sell the complete kit. You might try calling Zoeller tech support at (800) 928-7867 for assistance in obtaining the seperate components.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: My Zoeller Model 507 was installed at a ∼ 45˚ angle above the water line of my sump system. I understand it being above the water line as it is a backup, but being on an angle puzzles me as it seems that it will not pump efficiently when that emergency situation arises. Should it be installed in a more upright configuration?
by Kim Mohr from Iowa on May 02, 2011

A: Per the installation instructions for this pump, "Pump must be glued into tee fitting on a 30° angle to avoid air locking.
Perhaps it just seems like a 45 degree angle?

by Jim, Product Expert
Q: We know nothing on the operation of sump pumps. I would very much like to get a battery backup to our existing pump but we have no owners manual or anything on the one installed in the house we just moved into. Would a licensed plummer be the person to work with or an electrician. We are very interested once we know the specs on purchasing a battery backup from Zoeller. It has fantasic reviews.
by Patti Spycher from Michigan on May 01, 2011

A: A licensed plumber would be the professional to contact for help in getting your sump system installed. However, you can find information on our website at my How-To Library. This link offers a wealth of information on sump pumps and sump systems to help you understand what type of system you may need and how they work. We carry many of the major brand pumps, some of which can only be purchased or obtained through contractors at very reasonable prices.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Hi Jim
I Had a house built in 2006. There is a zoeller sump pump installed in basement. Can I purchase just the battery back-up system for my existing pump?

by Josh Nobile from Pennsylvania on April 28, 2011

A: You most certainly can and the Zoeller Model 507 may be what you need, however, it is best to size it according to your needs and what you think will pump a sufficient amount of water during those times when you may loose power. If your area is prone to heavy rains and flooding in your homes, you may want to think about stepping up to the Model 510 which will pump 1320 GPH at 10 feet or the Basement Watchdog .Special which will pump 1730 GPH at 10 feet. All excellent systems and compatible with your current pump.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I have this in the tandem setup with the M53 pump. 2 questions:

1) The backup pump always has a little water dripping out of it, not much at all, but a constant little drip. Is that normal?

2) The charger (mounted to the wall) emits a continual buzzing noise. Not super loud, but pretty noticeable when close to the basin. Is this normal?

by Rick from Illinois on March 02, 2011

A: It's possible there's water in the discharge pipe that's leaking through your backup since, as described in the installation manual, the check valve should be located just below the PVC "T" that the backup is mounted to.
Regarding the constant buzzing from the charger, if it's the alarm, it usually indicates a problem with the battery. Per the instruction manual, I would suggest:

(a) Push alarm reset (max. 3 times). If condition persists,
replace battery.
(b) To silence alarm if alarm will not reset, unplug the charger
from 115V wall outlet, then disconnect the black lead from
charger on negative (-) battery post. Check battery. Replace
if necessary. Reconnect and refer to Installation (step 14).

If it is not the alarm sounding, I would suggest contacting Zoeller Tech Support at (800) 928-7867.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: I am finally ready to order my back-uo sump pump but don't see which battery is recommended for the Zoeller 507 - Sentry® Battery Backup Sump Pump System (900 GPH @ 10'). I have a marina nearby and they can get me one but I need to know what's the best size for this model.
Thanks!

by Gayle Reynolds from Maine on February 27, 2011

A: From the owner's manual... These are typically group size 27 batteries.

The DC emergency pump system requires a good quality, 12 volt battery to obtain maximum pumping time during a power outage. These batteries contain acid and proper precaution must be taken when handling. Maximum battery size 12½" Length x 7" Width x 9½" Height
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Would I be able to buy just the pump? I all ready have the accessories. The person who installed the pump for me did so incorrectly. Did not install as direction stated for 18 x 22 basin w/ 2- 90 degree elbows.
by Melody from Pennsylvania on February 09, 2011

A: Unfortunately, we only sell this as a kit. You might try calling Zoeller Tech Support at (800) 928-7867 to see if they can assist you in that regard.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Why does the charging system stay on charge all the time and not go back and forth between charge and fully charge?
by Thomas Kirkpatrick from Michigan on January 28, 2011

A: According the the owner's manual, it should alternate between charge and fully charged. I would suggest having your battery tested to make sure that it is able to hold a full charge.

For advanced troubleshooting, Zoeller can be reached @ (800) 928-7867
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Can this system by hooked up to a whole house security system.

by Gary McCool from Georgia on January 06, 2011

A: Unfortunately, there are no external connections on the system, so it can not be hooked up directly to a whole house security system.
by Jim, Product Expert
Q: Do I need to leave my battery backup system charging at all times?
by Patrick Mcclone from Wisconsin on January 03, 2011

A: To be completely sure your backup system is fully functional during a power outage or weather event, these systems need to stay plugged in at all times.

by Jim, Product Expert
Q: how many hours backup does this provide in case the power goes out. we are looking for a 24 hour back up pump.
by Diana from New Jersey on January 03, 2011

A: This system does not include a battery, and that is what determines the hours of backup a system can provide. There is also the factor of how often a system is running that determines the amount of backup time.

Doesn't Work
The backup pump has not worked since day one. After going to the trouble of plumbing in the pump it blew the in line fuse as soon as the float switch was activated. I've tripled checked the wiring and have gone through 6 fuses and not been able to get it to work. Very disappointed.
Cons: Unreliable, Pump Has Never Worked It Blows The In Line Fuse

Overpriced And Died Within A Year. Read This Nightmare.
Worked great for several months until it died unexpectedly. No warning from the unit either.. No alarm - nada. I was testing the system last month because we were expecting severe thunderstorms and found the fuse kept blowing. Turns out the pump died. Luckily the power never went out although it flickered giving me that helpless feeling (if you know what I mean)... *Think 4 feet of water in the basement type of feeling.....* Anyway, I thought replacing the pump was going to be easy but it was... more

Peace Of Mind When We're Gone
Our only back-up to keep our basement dry during a power failure in a rainstorm was to start a manual generator. Now we are retired and can be gone for a month at a time. It was hard to find a neighbor who would be around to start my generator in the event of a rain storm power failure.

The Zoeller 507 was easy to install after reading the clear and concise directions. The tandem hook-up with the original pump and the ease of the float adjustment is a good design.

The Battery Powered Pump Is A Junk
After a power outage, first time use of the brand new battery backup system, the pump failed miserably. It turned out the impeller was made of plastics and the plastic impeller just came off !!!

Disappointing
I installed this pump about 2 1/2 yrs ago. Installation was easy and thought I was in good shape. It did work well when the power went out for about 1 1/2 days, so it saved me there. However the pump quit working now and I have to buy another.

I'm just very surprised that it didn't last longer for the money they charge. I really only had one power outage during the time I owned it so it shouldn't have actually run all that much.

I'll be looking for another brand this time.

One Minor Design Flaw, Here's The Fic
This is a great little pump kit, but I have one modification that I would make to the installation. The standard installation of this pump with the supplied fittings calls for gluing the pump into a 1.5" PVC tee. The problem is, there is no way to remove the pump without cutting the PVC installation if you were to have a bad pump, and if the built-in check valve-flap on the pump itself were to fail, there's no way to access it inside of the tee (even though it has screws as if it is... more

Doesn't Work
I followed the installation instructions to the T and they were easy to follow. Unfortunately, if you receive one that does not work like I did you have to reverse all the work you did to install it. This is not an easy task when it is rain season and your primary is almost constantly in use in an inline system. This pump was expensive and has caused me a lot of aggravation that I have little time to deal with. I'm currently searching for a new system that will be helpful if the power goes... more

Peace Of Mind
I installed the 507 battery backup pump along with an M98 primary pump in a couple of hours. The 507 came will all that I needed for the installation. The instructions were clear for both pumps.

Both units operated flawlessly at the start. I am relieved after having my old primary and backup fail during Hurricane Sandy.
