Q: Bob- can you take off the two outside tines to weed and loosen the soil betweeen rows?
by R. Bruce Miller from Pennsylvania on June 14, 2012

A: Bruce - you cannot adjust the tilling width on the Earthwise electric cultivator. You can take off the outside tines to narrow the tilling width for weeding on both the Greenworks electric tiller and the Troy-Bilt TB154E: electric cultivators This feature is also available on several of the gas cultivators we sell.

Q: I have an area that hasn't been till for 4 or 5 years will this break it up.
by Bob Kidwell from Indiana on May 21, 2011

A: This honestly depends on how hard the ground could have gotten. This would not be a good unit for breaking fresh ground and more or less is a cultivator. Your job may be more suited for a gas model. What happens is you usually end up running short on power and can do damage to the electric motor.

Thanks,

Great Investment For You & Your Garden
This was a great investment for our gardening hobby. It not only has saved time by shortening the prep work but has resulted in excellent soil cultivation too. Another plus is that this cultivator is compact and can be stored easily. Electric means less maintenance and no gas needed. I would recommend this to fellow gardeners.

Heavy Working Maching For Small Gardening
This little powerhouse exposed all the rocks in my newly started vegetable garden and kicked up all of the ones the size of baseballs or smaller. As for the boulders, it found them and exposed them so that I could pry them up with a pry bar. Worth the price! I use my generator to provide the electricity.

Troy Built Tb154e
It's a great lil machine for what its made for.. i've used it twice in the last month and it exceeds all it was advertised. I'm 72 yrs old and in poor health.. but i handled it easily. I cultivated an existing 25 by 50 foot garden and tryed it on burmuda grass. I needed one pass on the garden and two passes on the burmuda grass completely removed the burmuda two inches deep. This is the third troy built machine i have purchased. They have all exceeded by far my expectations.

Incorrect Depth
The Troy web site says this model tills "up to 8 inches deep." Amazon and its other sellers (including this one) repeat this claim.

But when you buy it, the box says "Tills up to 5 inches deep." This is accurate, because the tines are only 8 inches in diameter.

Buy this if you need a toy to scratch the surface of your garden, and if you like doing business with liars.

Troy-bilt Tb154e
I have had 5 of these Troy-Bilt tillers in the last 60 days. Works great when it turns on. The store would give me a new one and it would run about 2 hours, then would not turn back on. I had the last one repaired and took it home. It lasted 10 minutes.

I would go and have lunch, come back, and it would not turn back on. All five did the same thing. Turn it off, and you don't know if it will go back on. It does work great, and I think it's a great tiller. There is just something wrong with... more

Quit Working
The first time I broke up my small garden, it worked fine. It was turning over the soil good enough. It would get clogged after 10 mins. or so. Considering the price, that wasn't a big deal. I would clean it and start again. However, the next year and the third time I used it, it stopped working. I think it overheated, possibly from constantly getting clogged. It's not tripped. It doesn't work. $200+ for less than 3 uses is not worth it.
Cons: Unreliable, Durability

Tiller Stopped Working
My purchase for this tiller took place online back in January of this year. I've only had the tiller out of the box for a couple of weeks, and when I went to use it today to till my garden, it worked for about a half hour and stopped. It does not function regardless of what type of elecrtical cord I use. I am very disappointed

I purchased ELECTRIC TROY last year. I am not impressed. It gets clogged easily by grass and weeds. Not built for real tilling work, I am disapointed!

Used It Once For $ 200 Dollars
Used it first time the overload button pupped out. Could not push it back, could not find anyone to service it in the whole Kentucky state.
It is very expensive $200 piece of junk.
Cons: Low Quality, Unreliable, Used Once The Overload Button Pub Out Could Never Push It Back

Great Cultivator
I bought this cultivator about one year ago. I use it to till my furrows and keep the ground broken up. It is a little powerhouse. I have also used it to till ground overgrown with weeds. It has done everything I wanted it to do.
Pros: Easy To Use, Reliable, High Quality, I'd Buy It Again
