  5 Questions
Q: does the blower have a starter rope if you don't use the electric starter
by Ron Reed from Kentucky on January 23, 2016

A: Ron - yes, the Toro 518ZE has both an electric start and a recoil start
by Robert, Product Expert
Q: For clarity this is a push button start, BUT it is required to be plugged in to an outlet during the initial startup?
What size outlet?
It is ONLY during the starting correct? Following the start up it can be unplugged, correct?

by Jeremy from Ohio on December 05, 2015

A: Jeremy - you are correct. You plug the starter cord into any standard household outlet. Once the snow blower is started, you unplug the cord from the electric start module before using the snow blower.
by Robert, Product Expert
Q: Is it regular gas or mix
by Orlando Vela from Illinois on November 20, 2015

A: Orlando - all of the gas-powered snow blowers we sell have 4-cycle engines. Gas goes in the fuel tank and oil goes in the crankcase - same as in your car. No mixing. You would use regular grade 87 octane gas with no more than a 10% ethanol content.
by Robert, Product Expert
Q: Is this Snow Blower "Self-Propelled?
by Carol from New York on October 10, 2014

A: Carol - a Toro 38473 is not self-propelled. This model does have an auger assisted drive system. The front auger paddles will help pull the snow blower forward when they are engaged. There would no "assistance" for backing up or going in reverse however.

by Robert, Product Expert
Q: Does this Toro 38473 have a rechargeable battery for starting the engine?
by Sarah Shade from Indiana on August 10, 2014

A: Sarah - there is no battery on the Toro 38473. The electric start would require you to use an extension cord plugged into the electric start module, which is then unplugged once the unit has been started.

No Heart Attack!
At almost 83 years old I was having difficulty getting my driveway and sidewalks shoveled and the work with a shovel was too much. This blower works perfectly like all TORO products. I have others. Out of the box it this blower started on the first push of the button. It really works - very pleased.

Terribly Disappointed!!
I did my research and selected this model for its reliability and cleaning ability. It appeared to meet my needs as a senior citizen (light weight and easy start). Unpacked it, added oil and fuel and it started right off. It never did clear right to the sidewalk as advertised, but I thought it might be a learning curve for me. I had performed all the adjustments as outlined in the manual.

The second snowfall is why I am writing this negative review. The snowfalls were less than 30 days... more

Lauranne,
I am sorry to hear of the negative experience you have had with your Toro single stage snow blower. If this is a manufacturer defect the repairs will be covered under warranty. With these units there are a few troubleshooting tips you can try if the engine will not crank/start:

Is the fuel shut off valve closed?
Is there a build up of dirt and residue around the governor/carburetor?
Is the engine start switch turned off?

If you have checked all of these possibilities, unfortunately the next best option would be to take the unit to a certified Toro service center.

Once again, I do apologize for the issues you have experienced with the unit. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Great Little Blower
Delivery was so quick, I am really impressed! Unfortunately I ordered it too late in the season to get rid of the previous snow, but with fresh snowfall it is doing a great job! I live in Boston, MA and we are getting hammered here.

Snowpocalypse 2016
We were just hit with over 27 inches of snow in NYC, and finally got a chance to un-box this bad boy. I must say, this machine handles the snow like a champ. Setup was fairly quick and easy. I power and control of this machine is fantastic. Would highly recommend this anyone looking for a smaller unit

Impressive Machine
The little Toro 518 ZE looks well made and easy to use. The set up directions were brief and simple. It came with oil in a long spout container but a funnel is still necessary to avoid oil drips. The dip stick is a bit hard to read. Best to go by 12 oz measure to fill.

Haven't found the drain plug yet. The manual is really too simple. No directions on how to change the oil or spark plug. Nothing on long term maintenance. The 518 started on the first pull and the first electric start. .

Very Happy
I have had this machine for over 2 years now. Starts easy and has not let me down even in deep snow. I take half passes and it does the job. It is a small blower do not expect it to do bigger jobs than it can handle. I also use a silicone spray on the blade and the shut works even better. Very happy with this blower.

It Is Great!
I am a 62 year old woman. I bought a Toro Power Clear 528 ZE for the 2016 snow season. This is the first snowblower that I have ever owned. Used it today 2/11/2016 for the first time. Works great! Used electric start and started right up. Easy to handle. Thanks.

Unbelievable Service
I ordered a snow blower from you on a Wednesday noon and received it here in Iowa at 10AM the next morning. I bought one last year from you and got the same service.

Thanks very much.

Easy To Use.
Preforms as advertised. Moves 5"-6" fluffy snow with ease. Assembly was easy, although I had to bend the control cable hook to attach, and the discharge chute knob came loose and was lost during the first snow run. My wife tried it we're both in our late 70's and found it easy to operate.
