Q: Do any walk behind string trimmers have an electric start?
by Peggy Trost from Iowa on August 24, 2013

A: Peggy,

I am sorry to say that no, there aren't any in our stock, or that I know of being built to date. All of the walk behind trimmers I know are equipped with a recoil, or pull start.
by Joe, Product Expert

Q: Hi Todd i would like to know if this machine can remove small brush up to 5 inches in diameter?, by brush i mean any small trees such as maples, oaks, cherry's things like that, thank you!
by JFA from New Jersey on May 22, 2012

A: JFA

This trimmer will not preform properly if you are trying to trim that type of brush. It works best with longer grass and general upkeep with lawns.
by Joe, Product Expert

Q: My question is concerning the Swisher Trim Max 3-in-1 walk behind trimmer. I see where it can rotate 90 degrees to become an edger, but can it rotate at various angles from 0 to 90 or is it just one or the other. The reason I ask, is I want to set it at 15-20 degree for angled trimming along the fence and driveway. thanks
by Paul Mattingly from Kentucky on March 24, 2012

A: Paul - Unfortunately, the Swisher Trim Max trimmer head can only be set in either a horizontal or vertical position, so either zero degrees or 90 degrees. There are no in-between settings like you are looking for.
by Joe, Product Expert

Q: Does this trimmer have an automatic string (line) feed or is it small little hunks of line that you need to replace manually if it breaks off? We have a piece of property (not big) that is a mixture of weeds, volunteer trees (buckthorne) and small top tree roots, would this be a good trimmer to use; as I don't want to mow it with the blade mower. Thanks for the help.
by Beth Kryzak from Illinois on July 21, 2011

A: Beth - all of the gas walk-behind string trimmers that we carry (including the Husqvarna HUS625HWT) would use multiple strands of pre-cut trimmer line. These strands do need to be replaced by hand when they fray or break off altogether. However, the pre-cut strands of trimmer line used in this type of trimmer are much thicker and more durable than the typical trimmer line found on hand held string trimmers. As for the property you have described, I don't think any of the gas, walk behind string trimmers are going to "tame" your vegetation. I don't think you will be able to trim back or cut down any of the volunteer tree's or buckthorne - I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure these are going to be too tall and too thick around for this type of trimmer to handle effectively.
by Joe, Product Expert

Q: How do I purchase replacement blades for the HUS625HWT walk behind string trimmer?
by Patty from Washington on June 26, 2011

A: Patty - this product does not use "blades". It uses a heavy gauge vinyl trimmer line. Here is what you need: high wheel trimmer line
by Joe, Product Expert

Q: Todd, I'm about ready to order the HUS625HWT, walk behind string trimmer. Man I know this is gonna help keep my acre of weeds under control. Question: I would like to purchase extra line. Do you stock any, and what size is it? Thanks man! Bruce
by Bruce from California on June 19, 2011

A: Bruce - we do carry replacement line for our walk behind gas string trimmers. It is a .155 diameter line, and it comes in a package of pre-cut lengths that will fit most walk behind gas string trimmers Trimmer line
by Joe, Product Expert

Q: I am considering buying this as a replacement to a push mower that just died.
I have a rider for most of the mowing and I need this for our vacant property for the tall stuff. Do you think that this would be okay for light mowing on a small yard? I don't see the sense in buying another push mower if I have this. Does it give a fairly smooth cut on regular yard grass?

by Vince from Michigan on June 14, 2011

A: Vince - a walk behind string trimmer really isn't designed for standard grass mowing. It will definitely work for this purpose, but because you are doing the cutting with a series of thin, flexible trimmer lines instead of a rigid steel blade, you may find it difficult to cut your grass in an even, smooth manner. The cuts to your grass may be somewhat uneven. If you are looking for a smooth, even cut for your yard grass, you probably won't be happy with the results from a walk behind string trimmer.
by Joe, Product Expert

Q: Can this string trimmer be used on an unlevel surface, such as a hillside? I am looking for something mainly for that purpose but also to do trimming between hedges.
by Kerry from Illinois on June 13, 2011

A: Kerry - yes, these walk behind string trimmer can be used on uneven surfaces and hillsides, as long as the slope is not greater than about 20 or 22 degrees. You will also be providing the "horsepower" to push one of these up and down the slopes, as none of these units have a drive system.
by Joe, Product Expert

Q: im looking for a walk-behind trimmer i got one now its great i would like one that starts with a key other the dr i dont see any other is this true
by Lois A Brown from Missouri on June 12, 2011

A: Lois - none of the walk behind string trimmers that we carry have an electric start feature. This is not a common feature on a walk behind string trimmer.
by Joe, Product Expert

Q: I bought a 43,000 sq ft property at Calif, high desert with tough weeds. Will Swisher Trim Max can do the job ??
by Harry Economou from California on June 03, 2011

A: Harry - when you say "high desert", are you at an altitude of greater than 4,000 feet? If so, the thinner air at altitude will not allow this trimmer to operate at peak efficiency. Your property is about one acre in size. This is plenty of trimmer to handle weeds and brush provided you aren't looking to maintain the entire one acre of property with it. Pushing this unit around one full acre to maintain the full acre of property is going to be quite a bit of work. If you are looking to maintain the full one acre of land and cut down weeds and brush, you may want to consider a rough cut mower instead, as these are self-propelled and won't require nearly as much effort and energy on your part to keep your property clear of weeds and brush.

Q: I am replacing a Troy Bilt 22 in cut electric & recoil start high wheel gas trimmer model 52064 serial number 520641201393which was destroyed in a garage fire in January. This has a commercial Briggs & Stratton 6 hp engine with a cast iron sleeve, so I'm pretty sure it was top of the line "back in the day." The electric start capability is very important to me. Does the Swisher Trim Max have that capability? I can't find it in the specs. Insurance will reimburse me. What is comparable?
by Bob Tappana from Missouri on May 21, 2011

A: Bob - none of the walk behind high wheel string trimmers that we offer have electric start capability, and none of them have a commercial grade engine either. I really can't offer any suggestions to you on a model that is comparable to what you had. Sorry.

It's A Little Bit Like Art
The way this trimmer cuts through the weeds and grass like butter. SOME HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT STRINGS CONSTANTLY BREAKING. WELL, THIS TOO IS AN ART. I'LL EXPLAIN. My 8 year old grandson uses this tool but he too breaks strings constantly. The ART of it is use the very tip of the strings to do the cutting. If you move the head in too close the strings will use the first third of the string leaving the last 2/3 to swing about, snag, and break.

Use it gently with an artistic soft touch and... more

Height Adjustment Missing
It doesn't appear to have a height adjustment. On uneven land, one side tends to scalp the ground. I will have to make something so that it cuts about two inches from the level of the ground.

Real Trooper
I have had one of these machines for about 6 years. It has started and run flawlessly for that entire time, no problems. I have about a mile and a half of electric fencing that borders woods on two sides. This machine has enabled me to keep the fence line clear. Yes, the vent at the top of the motor over the starter gets grass collected on it, but it brushes right off and yes, the trimmer lines break if I hit the metal T-posts for the fence too often.

Line replacement is quick and... more

Breaks Strings Left And Right
The Swisher trimmer head design is the worst in the biz. Only one way to attach strings and it causes them to break at the head if you contact anything besides grass. If you have a need to trim around fencing or mailbox posts or tress then do NOT buy this machine as these obstacles will break the line with even the slightest contact.

Not A Bad Trimmer......but............
I have owned one of these trimmers for 2 years now and it works fine. There is however, a few gripes I have with it. The first is the price - its too high for this product. For one reason, it doesn't have a choke. This can make starting a problem. Also, it feels like the engine isn't revved up enough even when you slide the throttle as high as it will go.
Another thing that I don't like is after just a few minutes of use, the engine will be covered in grass and debris. I had to keep pulling... more
