Great Tiller
Love this tiller. Previously had gas model. This electric one is so convenient and easy to use. Very powerful, too. I am over 60 with a bad back, but this tiller is just the ticket to get things done in the garden without waiting for my husband to be available to do it for me. Very easy to use.

Easy To Use And Powerful
This tiller has worked well in my raised beds. It has plenty of power and pulverizes the soil quick and deep. Easier to use than gas if you're within 100 feet of an electric outlet.

Assembly
I have heard only good things about these tillers from friends & family who own them. However, I am getting off on the wrong foot with mine, which was delivered today. I asked the Mantis representative what assembly entailed as I was tempted to pay the $30 for complete assembly. I was told it was only 8 bolts to put on the handle & kickstand. So I don't have to put the tines on? Oh no, just the handle & kickstand.

The tiller arrived in many pieces with nothing at all... more

Very Pleased To Recommend The Corded Mantis Electric Tiller ...
Where we used to live the soil was hard-packed clay ... terrible hard clay ... almost concrete ... with lots of rocks and roots. The electric Mantis just chewed its way through the clay.

The specs say it will dig ten inches deep ... it will go much deeper if you move around in a circle to widen the hole a little. Just remove the powdered dirt and keep "tilling". I used it to dig a trench to install drainage pipe. Because I was working all day, I could only dig at night and... more

Nice Tiller For The Most Part
I purchased this tiller after much research & debate. I already own a Mantis gas cultivator/tiller with which I have an extreme love/hate relationship with mostly due to it not starting 95% of the time. However, I love the way the mantis tiller did work when running. So..after purchasing an electric Earthwise Tiller & returning it twice because the switch did not work, I decided to try the electric Mantis tiller. Overall, it works really nice, it does not beat you up like the gas... more

Excellent Lil' Tiller
Through hard rocky ground, cuts roots as big as my thumb, efficient and easy to handle. I am extremely pleased with this tiller, my first tiller I've ever had. I love electric because it's quiet and starts every time. My boss made fun of me cause he has the same tiller but gas powered and he thought mine wouldn't have enough power but it does. Only thing it had trouble with was wet heavy ground covered in grass. When the going gets too difficult its circuit breaker will trip. No problem. ... more

Assembly
Assembly is not difficult. I had the thing assembled finger-tight twenty minutes out of the box before I even went to look for a couple of 7/16" wrenches to finish the job. The tines have to be placed on the shaft, but switching those out is something you want to be able to do anyway (to switch between tilling and cultivating). That is not really an "assembly" issue. The picture posted by another reviewer is a bit cluttered-looking, but (1) it also includes an optional edger... more

Gardening Pleasure
So easy to use. I once had the mantic gas, pull start and it was too hard for me to get started. Now it's as simple as pie.
It's easy to start, very quiet and light weight, couldn't be easier.

Ths only problem I had was when I took it apart to clean it I dropped a cotter pin throught the deck boards. So be sure to order extra cotter pins.

Happy Gardning:)

Falls Apart - Not Sturdily Built For Difficult Soils
I have used my Mantis tiller three times. The soil where I live is heavy clay with a lot of small rocks. I don't have complaints about how the tiller breaks up the soil, but because the clay is tough the tiller shakes and loosens the bolts. Also, when the tiller hits a rock, it throws the tiller so I have to maintain a hard grip on it, which is very tiring and can be painful for muscles. This is not an easy product to use. When operating, I have to stop every two minutes or so and re-tighten... more

I have disabilities but still love to garden. Could not use a pick and shovel any longer and this tiller meets my needs. I can handle it without hurting myself. I does a good job and is light enough for me to move around.

Just What We Needed
We have a small home garden (10 x 20 ft) and the tiller worked great on the "end of season" weeds. It was fast and easy to use.
Pros: Easy To Use, Light Weight, I'd Buy It Again

Great Workhorse!
We needed to get our home garden under control and this tiller made short work of the 25' square plot. Extensive maple tree roots were no match for it. It seemed more powerful than a gasline version and much quieter. Best part, no fossil fuels,
Pros: Durable, Easy To Use, Quiet, Easy To Store

2nd Mantis Tiller
In 2005 I moved from Oregon, where I had purchased the Mantis gas model, to Washington. As I could not find a Mantis dealer in Washington, I ordered my Mantis electric model from Tillers Direct. This is the 2nd Mantis tiller I have purchased. I am 79 years and still gardening.

I purchased the electric model as I had great difficulty in starting gas model, which I gave to my grandson as he can start the gas model. Since receiving my electric model I have thatched my yard with the... more

Great Tool!
I have used mine for three years now and have no complaints - I love the ease of use and being environmentally helpful.

It does quick work in the garden and other areas. Last fall I "tore up" my front lawn, approximately 12' x 30' in less than an hour. I will probably need to do it again this fall as the summer season was not kind to a new "carpet". The tiller will make short work.

I will gladly buy another when this one "cashes in".

I love this Mantis. I was no longer able to get the pull cord type started. Now I just plug the cord in and it starts right away. It is easy to handle and digs deep. Very nice investment!

Wonderful For 70+ Single Lady
Ordered my Mantis as I'd just moved to a home where I have a garden space. In need of help with the work, I went for the Mantis. My sister had one for years, but it was gas powered and she is unable to start it, so I went for the electric.

It's amazing and I love it. My garden isn't beautiful yet, but I also have a part time job that takes up time and energy, so I only have so much time to spend there and it's better than it would be if I didn't have it.

Never Out Of Gas
I have hard soil, but my Mantis moves through it with no problem. I put a top coat of soil conditioner first, then my Mantis works it into the garden and the whole garden looks like soil conditioner.
