Husqvarna Rancher
I've had Husqvarna chainsaws for years now, through hurricanes Katrina and Isaac . The Rancher rides on my tractor whenever I go out to the field. It's expensive but you get what you pay for - the Husqvarnas are for people who use them and my Rancher's has been used regularly for the years I've had it. So far it's needed no maintenance other than normal routine replacement of the parts subject to wear and the air cleaner element. All my Husqs are still fully operational while other brands I've... more

Cuts Through Hedgewood Like Butter
So my old beat up Husqvarna Rancher 55 that I got at an auction broke and for the price of fixing it I figured I might as well buy a new saw. I did a bit of poking around on the Husqvarna website and am glad I did. I was initially leaning towards the Rancher 450, but found out that the 455 is substantially more fuel efficient. So I purchased the 455, reasoning that I would make up the price difference in fuel savings in the first year.

Boy am I glad I did. I have cut a cord of wood on less... more

455 Rancher Is One Mean Saw!
The people that are throwing chains must not know what they're doing. I've cut 10 cords of wood with my 455 rancher swapping between 3 different brand chains and haven't thrown one yet. As far as oil leaking when the saw is not in use, before you store it undo the oil cap to let the pressure out of the tank then tighten back up and it won't leak. I was skeptical about this saw when I purchased it, but it's been nothing but a beast.
Pros: Reliable, Fast, High Quality, Exceeded Expectations

My First Chainsaw
I have nothing to compare this chainsaw to, as this is my first chainsaw. Intuitively this saw is easy to operate. She starts quickly and cuts through hardwood like butter. Seemingly a little heavy to lug around, the extra weight serves well once cutting.
Pros: Easy To Use, Quiet, Exceeded Expectations, Reliable
Cons: Expensive

Cuts Great
I am very pleased with this saw, starts easy, cuts great, and not too heavy to handle. Had to do the normal chain tightening several times, but that is normal with a new chain. It has three carb. adjustments that can be adjusted with a small screwdriver and I already know that after break in time is done it will need some minor adjustments. I had a 350 before and had to make adjustments after about three months so that is expected. Love the saw and know that it will be a good one for years to... more

Won't Start Again After Use And Shut Down.
This saw has been in the repair shop for nearly a month now. I don't know how I like the saw because I haven't been able to run it enough to know! The saw won't restart after use. It has to sit for more than an hour in order to get it to start again.

It Heated My House For Four Years
I lived in a 2700 sq. ft. house in WV and used electric baseboard heat in the bathrooms. The rest of my home was heated by a single wood stove on the lower level. At first I used a Poulan chainsaw that was too small to do the job. I bought a 455 Rancher. I continued to use the Poulan as a limb lopper and my 455 as the log slicer. The combination was perfect. Each year I filled my 24' x 8' x 8' woodshed to the rafters. I have never had any problem with the 455 but now I know how to fix the... more

Simply Put...incredible!
I grew up being a woodsman. My Grandfather used Homelites only. My Dad was a staunch Sthil man. I've owned 'em all. I was looking for a Sthil when I came across a Husqvarna with a larger engine and bar for about $25 less. Talked to a few people that own Huskys.

I made the plunge, and I couldn't be happier. It cuts like a friggen animal. Hardly any vibration at all! Plus there's a button on top that you push to take the torque out while you pull. Unlike a Sthil, where you have to stand on... more

Buyer Beware
We have 28 acres of land-most wooded-so my husband cuts wood often, BUT, after 3 uses the carb needs to be replaced on the 455 Rancher. Oh, & DON'T use the Husqvarna 50:1 premixed fuel--we did & according to Husqvarna repair we had "bad fuel" which lead to customer abuse, misuse, & neglect...Think I'll sell this one once repaired & go back to a Homelite--had much better service out of it!
Pros: Quiet, Easy To Store
Cons: Low Quality, Heavy, Durability, Expensive

Wouldn't Start Out Of The Box
I bought from Lowes. I can't say much about it's cutting ability. It wouldn't start. It appeared that decompression switch was stuck. After a lot of finessing , I put it back in the box and took it back to Lowes. I looked at another one out of the box the switch looked bad on that also. So now I'm looking for another chainsaw any recommendations? What about Echo's? They look like have a good warranty ?

Brendan,
I apologize for the inconvenience.

We have no issues with our decompression valves. When proper starting procedures are followed the deco valve will automatically close upon the unit starting.

I had a Poulan for 15 years and switched to the Husqvarna 455. I ended up returning two of them to Lowe's in the same weekend. The first worked fine for two hours. It cut through wood with ease, as advertised. Then after an hour of work, it wouldn't start. I waited an hour and it wouldn't start.

Waited a day and it wouldn't start. I asked another worker to try and he couldn't start it. So I exchanged it at Lowe's for another one. The second one wouldn't start out of the box. In... more

Forget Buying Any Husqvarnia Product
My chainsaw did not work right the day I unpacked it. It wouldn't restart for hours after shutting it off. Their customer service was unsympathetic to my situation going as far as to suggest the problem was my fault because I was operating it incorrectly. (I have over 40 years of successfully using chainsaws). They pointed out how their warranty works. You first have to take it to a dealer who looks the saw over. If anything is found bad the dealer must contact Husqvarnia for permission... more

Paul,
Paul,

I am sorry to hear about your experience with your 455 chainsaw. There are a variety of reasons why your saw is not operating. It could just need a carburetor adjustment or it could be bad fuel. Fuel has a life of about 30 days, so if you did not use fresh gas, this may be your issue. In any case, I would recomend taking the saw to Smith Equipment in Queensbury, or Falls Farm and Garden Equipment in Hudson Falls. One of these dealers will be able to fix the problem. Please call them in advance to schedule an appointment for service.

Throws Chain
The 455 cuts great but throws the chain routinely. When the chain comes off, it ruins the chain and also damages the gear/flywheel and the surrounding area.

Anyone have any ideas???
Cons: Throw, Chain, Throws Chain Routinely

Don't Buy Huskys
My local Tractor Supply explained they stopped selling Huskys due to the cost of replacing chains. My Poulan chain occasionally comes off the bar and I simply put it back on. Whenever the Husky chain pops off it must be replaced.
Pros: Price, Fast
Cons: Unreliable, Durability, Chain Replacements
